Does DaRon Bland get a shot at NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award?

He has 7 Ints resulting in 5 TDs. This is more TDs than any offensive player on the Steelers roster.

When Stephon Gilmore won his DPOY in 2019 he had 6 Ints with 2 TDs.

Daron Bland is a nobody, a 5th round draft pick out of Fresno State in 2022. But, in his rookie year last year he had 5 Ints, and now only in his second year he has rewritten the record books in only 9 starts to record 7 Ints and 5 TDs.

Funny, that DaRon Bland was looking at being the 3rd CB off the bench with Diggs and Gilmore starting when the season began, and now, because of the Diggs injury we are talking about DPOY for DaRon Bland.

Should he be in consideration?! Yes.


Will he be?! Now that Myles Garrett needs an MRI on his shoulder, pending those results?! Possible but still u likely. The race is now between Micah Parsons and TJ Watt; Maxx Crosby bringing up the rear.


Now, if Bland can add two more Defensive TDs to his name?! Book it.

 

Lets see if he can stack consecutive good seasons first. Then by all means he should.

I've seen numerous Cowboys games this year. There's been other games where he's just missed getting picks. He's reading the play and jumping routes better than anyone in the game right now. I fully expect many more INT's to come. Whether they turn into TD's or not requires luck, but Bland is going to continue picking off the ball. He's always around it

 

He should definitely be in consideration for it, he is having a historically great season.

 

Agreed. I am lost on needing to have multiple "Good" years to win a Yearly award. "Player of the Year" We are not voting him to the All-Decade team.

It should be OK for a 1-Hit wonder to win Defensive Player of the Year. Granted this is only his DaRon Bland's second year, so we don't know how his career is going to turn out.

 

Well to be fair ..they kinda made TJ do it for more than one year before they gave it to Him.

 

If TJ goes over 20 sacks he wins it, he has 13.5 right now, anybody but Myles Garrett .

 

He had to tie the sack record just to get it the year he won! Sheesh! They are really pushing Garrett on us though.

In 1971 Alan Page won DPoY and (NFL MVP) with 9 sacks and two safeties. Ken Houston had 9 interceptions and 4 returned for TDs, plus a fumble he returned for a TD. The Oilers were only 4-9-1 that season while the Vikings were 11-3. Bland is playing on a team that will make the playoffs. TJ Watt is on pace for 20.8 sacks, which voters will compare to his 22.5 sack season and possibly vote for Bland.

 

Yet another reason the NFL draft doesn't interest me the way it does others. Zero guarantee on any player drafted. The GOAT Ahole QB was a 6 rounder. Wasn't the QB in last years NFCCG the last player picked in draft?
