It's not that he's just poor, it's the opportunity of everything they bypassed to draft him instead.

It's like compound interest (or not getting it).

When you're in the QB market you can't think like that. You almost always overdraft a QB. You just find a guy you believe in and give it a try. There are so many busts at every level of the draft that you know the risk, but go for it anyways if you truly believe you might have a guy. It's nearly impossible to win it all in this league without a top 10 QB. You HAVE to have the QB, so you HAVE to try. Just have to hope you take and develop the right guy.

Love interest in general - getting 5-6% for having money just sitting there is such a bonus.

After tax return is king! When the commercial real estate shoe drops we are all going to be in a lot of trouble, especially your regional/community banks. Remember canned goods, water and ammo!!

I never qualified for Roth and there is a reason CEO's are whining about getting workers back in the offices. In the major cities and secondary cities there is enormous amount of empty space and leases are not being renewed and the banks holding a lot of these loans are going to be in a **** show.

I am sure Pickett is collecting some nice compound interest. Too bad it doesn't translate to the field. I am trying to stay on topic without hijacking the thread. How am I doing?

    Exactly.

In today's game, which is much different from even 10 years ago, you have to have a very good QB to win. Your only choice is to draft QBs and keep drafting QBs until you find a good one. To do otherwise is folly.

I mentioned this in another thread, but the Steelers' FO has made a concious decision to go contrarian and spend their money on defense and this hasn't helped KP imo. This is part of the reason we have a bad offense. Our WR's are average at best. Our O line is below average. Our TE's are non-existant. The Steelers are first in the league in terms of % of cap spent on the defensive side. They dished out $42M in contracts on defense this off-season vs around $34M on the offense. This is where they've decided to hang their hat. In some ways I can't blame them, but when contrarian thinking fails it usually does so spectacularly.

You don't have to draft them in the 1st round at the expense of other positions.

    Purdy
    Prescott
    Wilson
    Hurts

Those are excpetions. Hurts was a second, so not exactly low.

I actually did an analysis of every QB drafted this century and there was a clear correlation between round drafted and success. The chances of finding a franchise QB were much higher in the first and went down from there.

But it can be done and the biggest example of that. Tom Brady.

And Hurts was a 2nd, but still not in the top 20% of the draft.

You need a QB, but you can't blow your entire budget on one and you have to move on quickly before they make any money.

Point is - Pickett did not need to be taken at 20 (and shouldn't have)

Banking on it is a losing game.

Seriously, if you're thinking you can beat the odds and find the GOAT in the sixth round, you're fooling yourself.

Never said that, but don't compound a mistaken pick but staying with it longer than necessary.

It can be done, but it’s very uncommon. If you need a QB, you can’t count on finding one late.

It's also uncommon to not see ones that haven't progressed in the 2nd year on a decent roster to not make some remarkable leap. Unless a guy sits for years (like Rodgers), if they play in the first few years and don't start to show marked improvement, it's unlikely to come.

    Not impossible (see G. Smith).
