Taken out of context. They asked him if he knew what a Terrible Towel was. He described them. They are little and they are yellow (Gold is a stretch)

Pro-football is played by young men with big egos and a ton of emotion. Do you watch them get hyped up before every game? Do you see big hits or stupid penalties because of emotion? Have you watched the defense respond to "Renegade?" So to pretend it has zero impact would be a bit of a stretch. In fact, it's absolutely illogical.

I'd prefer a vanilla response, Jags have a great defense, will be a challenge, etc. But I also imagine a film room where that stupid first down point thing they do is examined - "What were you doing there? You caught the ball or you ran for 4 yds. You want a gold star? Should we stop the game and applaud your magnificent achievement? Let's replay that and everyone give him a standing ovation for getting a first down. Take the rest of practice off and go get an ice cream cone... Act like a grown up, toss the ball to the ref, and get back in the huddle."

Yeah, I know, get off my lawn.

Not the point. On the field and off field antics 2 different beast. Emotions run high on the field or any sport for that matter. It’s one thing to expel a bit of trash mouth during the game…but off the field always show maximum respect to your opponent vs give them a burst of extra fury before the balls even kicked off. Any given Sunday…

Shut your mouth and simply let your play speak for itself.

The one that got me was the showboat with the Ball outstretched on the sideline! I was half laughing, half dying inside waiting for them to swat that thing back into the field of play!

Yeah, but We've seen the opposite too though.

That Jaguar playoff game. They did nothing but give high praise to the Jaguars, but in their heads they were looking ahead to the Patriots!

Well since Pickens said that he better go 150 percent tomorrow - like another poster said - no alligator arms this time.

Pickens fights for balls better than most. No issue there for me. Getting murdered to prove something hurts the team. That's on the QB.

Right! I don't have any problem with him saving himself there. Those guys were going to take the penalty to take his head off!

Considering our secondary play a hope defense could be applied to us as well

When he said no words spoken would make a difference because these are professionals, he evidently has not followed the history of sport or individuals. Chuck Noll had never showed much emotion, or caused much reaction when he spoke. The players had heard/read John Madden say the two best teams (Oakland and Miami) had met in the divisional round in 73. Oakland was coming here next for the conference championship, the Steelers were seated, Noll walked in and simply said the best football team is right here. Joe had never heard a response like this from Noll, he stood up, followed by the team and said no one was going to beat us that day. To say a team or player is not affected both positively or negatively by words is non-sense. If you get under the skin or in the mind of a player (especially emotionally charged ones) that definitely can and has changed plays, and out comes of games.

So, now that he said that, the Jags are gonna plan for him to not hurt them. Before he said it, they honestly didn’t even know who he was and were planning on triple teaming Washington all day.

The Apple cart is all upset now.

Maybe wait until you actually are an elite receiver like Justin Jefferson, Cooper Kupp, or AJ Brown before you constantly run your mouth. He hasn't done amything remotely close to the elite receivers in the league.

Its happened too many times with Steelers Receivers. I understand you want the guys to play loose but Tomlin has to get these guys under control better to protect them from themselves and out of respect for the rest of the team.

That is simply not how sports work. Once a game starts no one is motivated by words said before a game.
At any level of any sport.
