I know it has only been two games and there is still a lot to be seen, but in a vacuum, it looks like passing on Gonzalez was a mistake. I for one was hoping they would draft him over Jones. For me it would have been easier to find a left tackle than get a potential great corner. And also, beat me up if you like, but if your number one draft pick isn't an opening day starter, that's worrisome for me.

We haven't seen the full outcome of it yet....so hard to tell, but I was also wanting Gonzalez, and Cam Smith in the 1st. Of course the Year before that....I wanted a CB in the 1st, and the year before that, and the year before that. So.....

I wouldn’t worry about Jones yet. He’s probably going to play RT. 4 OTs went in the 1st round. Paris Johnson and Darnell Wright are both playing RT, and Pete Skoronski is at LG.

Heck, Jones and Moore could end up both playing on the same side as OT and OG. Lots of possibilities.

We already had JPjr in our crosshairs.

Or at least be competitive against the incumbent. Dan Moore Jr. clearly beat him out in training camp, OTAs and the preseason. I hope he's not another "Artie Burns' pick.

I don't think He is. I just think He isn't ready yet, and Moore is better than people try giving Him credit for.

I agree that if your first pick isn't ready to get into a game and contribute immediately, it's the wrong pick, especially if you move up to get him. I can understand a QB sitting and getting acclimated to the NFL environment and becoming the face of the franchise (KP), but an OL? A position that we have been hampered by mediocrity for how many years and we pick someone that we have to wait to get ready? Who knows, he may end up being the GOAT of OL but you'd hope we'd get someone to help right now. I guess that is why I am not a GM. JMO>

So by your criteria cam was a bad draft pick. So was troy p. I guess that means Ben was a bad draft pick as well. He only became the starter after injuries to the #1 and 2 quarterbacks

Yes, my criteria is that if I moved up to take a #1 draft pick, I'd want his contribution from game 1. I also said that QB's are an exception. I also said that I am not a GM so my criteria, as you call it, is more a preference that I doubt I am alone on. JMO>

No. That’s not what you said. If your number one pick isn’t ready to go immediately it’s a bad pick. Especially if you traded up to get him. So cam, Troy,Ben, terry b were all bad picks. Faneca didn’t start out of the gate either so there’s another member of the hof that were bad picks according to you

If you're only judging guys we traded up for, let's not forget Devin Bush. He started week 1.

The 'exactness' of what your saying can be picked apart all day, as you are finding out. The theory behind what you are saying is solid however. If a team trades up in the 1st round for a specific player, there should be a plan for that player playing in year1. That part is correct. Canada's scheme is not that complicated, as we have discussed in many threads ad nauseam. So, why has Jones not gotten a start? I don't know the answer, but it is concerning.

He did say differently for Qbs @strummerfan@strummerfan .
I also agree 1st round picks that are moved up for should be able to step in, but I also agree You are correct about Troy Polamalu, and Cam. So I agree with both of You. LoL

Some fans don't realize Jones isn't a finished product, he only started one year in college.

Even though I didn't want Him in the 1st , and I wanted a CB.....I totally agree with You. He could end up being awesome.

Worst jersey I've ever bought. Got fat for a bit and it was the only one which fit for a while. Luckily I can now fit back into all my larges that I have and I'll never wear bush again. Should just tape porter on the back.

Gonzalez was the CB I wanted in the first round, but it's too early to think they made a mistake in drafting Jones.

I never claimed to be dealing with absolutes here, I know that Jones could turn into an all-pro, and I hope he does. I would have preferred drafting Gonzalez, just my opinion.

Well maybe it was the plan for him to start on day 1 but he just didn't perform as they hoped.

It wouldn't matter..... whoever we draft, for the most part, would start the season on the bench simply because they're rookies.. Tomlin loves his veterans

Jones was a top three rated tackle in the draft, and with Weidl joining the organization it's no surprise they were going to address the trenches.
