THe real question about Green is can he play special teams? If so, he has a chance to make the roster and once that happens and injuries occur, he will get a chance to play fullback in games. At least in short yardage as a lead back. If we score a few TD’s or win some 4th and 1 because of him, now he goes from just ST, to ST and short yardage packages.

But I don’t see how we keep him and Heyward, and 3 TE’s without someone playing some special teams. Washington should have to play special teams as well as the 3rd string and short yardage TE.

They eventually benched him for Hassenauer, but it should have happened far sooner. I'm not saying Hassenauer was even a good option at center, but he was better than Green and it showed in the overall line's play those final few games of the 2021 season.

Heyward can play special teams. He could also end up being the third running back. Green also would likely provide depth at guard. Versatility is a good thing.

Heyward is a backup tight end and running back, too. Green also provides some versatility if he can add fullback to his resume. I don't know how seriously they are taking this. I'm guessing we will get a better idea during the first preseason game.

You just have to wonder if Vinces's comment about Green playing FB, had anything to do with Matt Canada trying Green at fullback?

Vince's comment about Green playing Fullback were repeated all over the internet by podcasters everywhere. Did Matt Canada just throw up his hands and say why not?

Also, I think this actually hurts Green's chances of making the team, as it means they have given up on him at the O-Line.

do we really want him as the backup center or guard in a meaningful game? if he's trying to learn fullback and still hasn't mastered center or really guard for that matter, him going in to replace one of our starters if an injury occurs will bring down the whole system. we have to change the o-line position and the full back position if that happens. we can't run the whole offense because of one player basically. nice story but man is he that important to have to adjust the whole offense around? or does it just cause us to keep an extra lineman ready on gameday. or one less of another position?

it wasn't meant to be the obvious green at FB, but literally he's very green at FB too. you were talking about him being green as a center so we put him back to a familiar spot as a guard, same results, now we are going to try him at another green position as a FB? at some point they have to say enough is enough. whats next QB? he hasn't excelled at any position so far so let's try another one. flexibility is one thing but if he's not good enough at any of them why bother?

    ?!

I was laughing at thr fact that you said Green was Green at Fullback in it of itself; not the idea that the switch would be seamless.

    My mistake.

no i got that. that part was actually unintentional but yes funny. i was more talking about what you said about tomlin putting him in a bad situation by throwing him in at center an unfamiliar position. my thought was , isn't that the same at FB? if he is the game day backup at center, guard and the starting FB, doesn't that just do the same thing that put him in a bad situation, and doesn't it put the team in a bad situation if he has to actually go into the game at any of those positions?

IMO, not necessarily. If he goes in as a back up center or guard, there are a ton of things to think about such as blocking assignments and defensive alignments on multiple plays since it would be likely that's he's in for more than one play. At fullback, he's coming in for plays with a singular goal. See guy, hit guy. Or run to the flat and catch the ball and get yourself upfield. Seems to be a lot less going on at that position.

or pickup a blitzing LB at FB or a changed play at the line or many other things that pop up in the pro game. God knows we will have used all our timeouts by that time. :lolol::smiley1::cool:

True, and I'm not saying that the position of fullback is necessarily an easy one but I do think it has less moving parts than a lineman. Plus, as a lineman Green was bullied more often than not because he is undersized. As a fullback going against linebackers or even defensive backs, that's a more favorable matchup for him.

    Ah... I see.

Fair point regarding that. While Tomlin, Colbert, AR II and Adrian Klemm are all to blame for how Kendricks career has gotten off to, Tomlin will still give Green a fighting chance. Granted, it still remains to be seen how well Green will fit playing as a FB but at least Green has the opportunity to carve out a role should he prove successul.

It does make for something to talk about in an otherwise boring preseason. In addition, if it's real and effective, it makes an opponent take an extra 1/2 hour to game plan for it.

So instead of slash, Green's nickname could be > "greater than" or & "and" or my favorite ; "semi-colon".

The only thing I remember about Green from last year was him standing on the sideline in sweatpants. I don't ever remember Green playing FB before.

If he is not NFL caliber, maybe he should never have had a shot. Looks like he was given something of an opportunity and to me that is about as fair as one can get trying out to make an NFL team. Nothing against this guy, but if he is still wearing a uniform and practicing, I'd say that maybe he is still relevant, and the script isn't finished just yet. JMO>

My Friend.....You as a Steeler fan ask this. If He was drafted in the 1st 3 rounds He will get a chance 97% of the time here. I wish Him luck. Will not hurt a bit to have a backup center, guard, special teams player, and FB dress on game day.
