They could use a better No. 3 than McFarland. I think they should bring back Snell.

That said, it is either a special kind of idiocy or trolling to suggest they would be in on Cook.

I like the Thunder and Lightning approach for the backfield. I always want to have a pounder and then someone that has the speed to get outside and break one for 60 yards. With this you can actually have 2 RBs in the backfield at the same time, as your speedster can go in motion to the outside and setup as a WR.

I don't see Warren being a Lightning in this offense. I didn't think Benny Snell was either.

Warren beat McFarland and played better than McFarland ever has this past season. He may not have the 40-time, but he has shown far more explosiveness as a runner than McFarland has in the NFL. Sometimes I wonder if you actually watch the games.

I'll never forget the pre-season game 2 years ago when McFarland broke into the clear on a 3rd and 5 and had at least 10 yards of daylight ahead of him. Instead he stopped and did a dance and was tackled from behind about a foot short of the 1st down. He is fast but he can't block, is not a good receiver and has poor running instincts.

I don’t even think the issue is talent, which Cook has in loads, or age or usage. IMO the issue is salary cap allocation. No team, Steelers included, can afford to have 2 RB’s making as much money as Cook will demand now, and Harris will want when his contract is renewed.
If it was 1 year for Cook then maybe but he will want, and deserves a multi year contract and the Steelers can’t make that allocation.

Someone may end up paying a great deal of money for his period of declining production. Running backs age in dog years in today’s NFL. Zero chance the Steelers pay the kind of sumoleans he will ask for what he could do for them. The Khan Artist is too smart for that.

Benny Lava is OP, so it's 50/50, or just both.

This! Warren could start and not miss a beat. Solid one/two punch.

Cook isn't going to sign for vet minimum he will be looking for a contract.

Cook has had a lot of injuries over the years and is probably heading in to decline at this point, albeit he is still a very dangerous player when he is going well. With his age he will struggle to get a multi year deal unless it’s very team friendly with a get out each offseason.

If he is looking for a ring he may end up with a team friendly deal in Buffalo, Philadelphia or Kansas. His brother plays in Buffalo.

He is not a fit for the Steelers at all, Najee and Warren and cheap and plenty good enough. If they are spending more money this offseason it won’t be on a running back IMO

Cook was cut because of contract. He is one of the best running backs in league. Someone will pick him up.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ook-pros-and-cons-of-new-york-adding-star-rb/

Cook has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons, and is the only NFL player to rush for 1,110-plus yards in each of the last four years. Since 2019, Cook has the third-most rushing yards (5,024), second-most rushing touchdowns (43) and second-most rushing first downs (258). Bottom line, the 27-year-old running back is a great player.

I never said to sign him. Steelers would never sign a player of that caliber we like the bargain bin.

28 is ancient in RB years. I’d rather just go with Warren. Younger and cheaper.

IMO Cook is a better runner than Harris ,Cook seems to hit the hole faster and have better vision , but we really have no room for him , if Harris had trade value then maybe that could be a way to get Cook here.. Never going to happen ..

Cook is definitely among the top 3 rb's in the league, but he's totally screwed himself with the current domestic violence case against him....... no one's gonna touch him
