I disagree. Find one now and get it over with. He's wildly inconsistent and has shown no improvement whatsoever. I'm not willing to wait to see him choke a couple times in game situations. but then I'm not a coach

Maybe they should audition a bunch of the excess o linemen they have in camp, and say “Well, you guys are all on the bubble. If anyone wants to have an additional chance to make it, let’s see if you can be a long snapper”. There is no downside to this. Everyone can’t do it, but just maybe they find someone who can.

People do get better. This should be His last chance. This is His 3rd year....You usually know what You really have by the 3rd - 4th year....good ,or bad. Hell I gave T. Edmunds 4 years before I was fed up. LoL

Most long snappers I've seen have been doing it since Jr High.

it never used to be a specialist doing it. most centers did it back in the day.

Matters the size if the school. I've seen small schools the centers did it, but then again a lot played both ways. I've also seen at larger schools they were centers, but they were backups focused mainly on long snapping. On My Little Brothers team the long snapper was the starting center, but then again at His school if You wanted to play football You did.....they needed everyone. Where I went it was not so.

Back in the day. That’s the thing right now. It’s a specialized job now. Everything relying on the split second precision. We saw how that worked out first game last season.

Many teams also had the BU QB as the holder, heck way back someone from the team was also the kicker, lol. Lou Groza comes to mind, and in truth he may have been the only one, but imagine having not having to waste a roster spot for a K, and your back up QB being your P...those were the days.

I think the day of the QB holding was a function of having 3 QBs active on the roster

That and the realization those 3 guys really do not do a lot, so keep them together and work it out, where as you pull your center and a QB away from regular practice to do the special team thing. Over simplified, but with practices more regulated in timing and number you can do, you need the specialists.

I always like the BU Qb being the holder....just for fake reasons.

Ben was the holder for a long time there. Didn’t Romo hold for the Cowboys? (Isn’t that one of his most infamous moments, not getting the conversion?).

The thinking was if there was a bad snap the QB would be better suited to make a throw to pick it up. I think teams decided it’s not worth having your QB on the field in a vulnerable position.

With a minute to go against the Seahawks the Cowboys trailed 22-21 but were lining up for a 19 yard chip shot FG to take the lead. That's when Romo fumbled the snap and then all the Seahawks had to do was kneel down and win the game. It was one of the legendary Cowgirl chokes through the years after the 90's team.

In a punter you pretty know what you have the 1st year. He's punting the football. Something he did in college over and over. He's not reading coverages or calling defensive formations. He's punting the football. I'm just not impressed with his body of work to this point. Can we wait another year on this guy? If he gets outkicked in camp they have to make the right decision and say goodbye.

No , but the football is a little different, the crowds are different, the whole feeling is different, and what the coach may ask of You is different. Although I do believe if He sucks in the preseason they should look elsewhere, but don't cut Your nose off to spite your face, and get someone worse. They should have kept the Guy that was taking His spot that one time.

yeah. I like my nose very much just where it is! I still think after 2 years you surely know what you have in a punter. that's all. You could be right but if he keeps messing up it's going to cost us games
