Name one player from past Steelers teams that you would put in the defense and the offense of todays team to improve it and why.

    mine would be:

    Defense- Rod Woodson CB
You put him on our defense today with Watt and Heyward and Highsmith and Fitzpatrick. That defense would be hard to beat even in todays NFL.

I thought of Jack Ham a cerebral coverage lb but I couldn’t pass up Woodson.

Offense- Antonio Brown (in his Prime) WR
He is just too dynamic of a playmaker. He makes the QB better. He extends drives, gets open and produces a lot of YAC. He impacts the run game by his mere presence.

I thought of Detminti Dawson and what a great fit between our two Guards but AB is just too dynamic.

Troy P: pairing him with Minkah =$$$$

Hines Ward: pairing him with fellow UGA equals more physicality for this offense

I am going Jack Lambert on defense, because he still made all-pro as a ILB in the 3-4. Offense you have to go Bradshaw or Roethlisberger because the QB is the beginning of what is needed for a great offense in today's game.

This is hard to do because you can't take older players (Green, Lambert, etc.) and put them on today's team. They could not play the way they did back then.

That said, it would be either Troy or Blount (they changed the rules because of him) on defense and offense would probably be Ward because of his toughness.

The QB would be obvious but I am anxious to see how Pickett plays.

If Ab made Qbs better why when playing with 8 different Qbs He has only scored TDs with 2 Qbs?? Ben, and Brady, and only had one hundred yard game outside of Ben, and Brady. Nobody ever seems to answer this.

Just watched a highlight video of Troys last night so I gotta go with him. I forgot just how much fun he was to watch and how good he was.
On offense, I agree about Dawson. He would make that line pretty formidable. Honorable mention to Jeff Reed. Not enough towel dispensers getting beat up nowadays.

The problem with adding Polamalu to this defense is you really need a free safety to play a more responsible role and cover up for his freelancing. Ryan Clark excelled in that area, but it would really take away much of Fitzpatrick's playmaking ability.

I would rather see them with a dominant cornerback. Blount was better, but Woodson's era was closer to the current game, so I would have to go with him.

On offense, it has to be Roethlisberger. Yes, you can argue that Bradshaw was better, but the game he played in was very different from the modern one Roethlisberger knew. This isn't a negative about Pickett, but he's got a long way to go and is far from a sure thing to play at a Hall of Fame level.

I have never had a disagree from @S.T.D@S.T.D before. I guess he's applying for the vacant hall monitor position.

For this offense I think you might be right and I might be wrong. Could you imagine Ward on this team. Troy and Minka would just be unfair for other teams. The only problem is I feel with their pairing you would be wasting one of them because they both like to move around a lot. I think the Safety staying at home and playing over the top would be wasted.

I think you have AB in his Prime and then you have Diva AB post Steelers. Two different players in my mind.

I completely agree with you on your assessment on defense. On offense I was thinking Ben or Ward or Dawson but I want to give KP a chance. I feel like KP may actually have a higher floor than Ben. He may never be the QB talent Ben was he certainly doesn’t have the physical gifts Ben does but I feel like as he grows into the game he is gonna make less mistakes and be more of a reliable QB if that makes sense. When we really tried to build the offense around Ben and the passing game we never won when we got to the playoffs. I believe a lot of that was because of the turnovers. We didn’t play a discipline game. Ben always made it exciting though thats for sure. I think you see that with Josh Allen today. He is an awesome QB but in big games he turns the ball over too much.

For Offense, toss up between Dermontti Dawson and John Stallworth. Having either or assists Kenny's development in a massive way.

For Defense, again.... toss up between Rod Woodson and Troy Polamalu. Mel Blount is very tantalizing but I would want to give Joey Porter Jr a shot to develop. Not having a true Nickel and/or Strong Safety that is, and, pardon the pun, strong enough is not ideal for Teryl's Defense; doubly so as a Nickel.

The good thing about the Troy/Minkah dynamic is that the team is slowly going 3 S. So Kazee would be playing that deep role with Troy freelancing more close to the box and Minkah in the intermediate spaces. Perhaps it totally flops, but the way we're going anyways

On defense, my addition to the current defense would have to be either James Farrior, or Levon Kirkland....
On offense I'm thinking either Dermonti Dawson or Mike Webster

It isn't a lack of faith in Pickett to take Roethlisberger in his prime. You don't pass on a Hall of Fame quarterback for a maybe no matter how much you like the maybe.

Also, Allen has shown the ability to come through in a playoff game. Go back and watch what he did to the Chiefs two years ago. It's not his fault the coach and the defense choked that one away.
