Any chance they grab him at 17? Not saying I want to, just wondering. Tore his pec but has that speed I like.

Sure we won't take him but somebody is going to get a monster.

Another not popular opinion I have is that since this is a season of them building a strong foundation and plan for 2024 that I’d like to see them grab a player like this who’s draft stock will drop, but would normally get picked much higher.

We might not see them till late in the year or early next, but that is when we (hopefully) will need them most.

Another guy in a similar situation is OL Andrew Vorhees.

I'm all in for Vorhees. If he's there in the 7th, or if we get a 6th or 5th in a trade, I'd take him in an instant. He seemed to be a 3rd/4th round prospect, but damned, what he did at the combine was amazing.

If they trade Mitch and Kevin Dotson they could easily get a 5th and 6th pick, plus she’d more cap space to pick up more depth bargain guys or put in the hat towards Highsmith.

    Just do it already!

He is most definitely not dropping that far. Someone with picks and a long term plan is taking him if he gets to the third round. Dude is a beast and has the heart to go with it!

I wouldn't take him at #17, if he was BPA at #32 then maybe you think about it.

The injury will drop him, I'm not sure how much. Nolan runs a 4.39 at ILB. Plus, he was leader of the defense.

That is an incredible 40 time for an ILB. Holy crap . We need someone like that for coverage.. Sideline to sideline

As a moderator, I can’t. I need to keep an eye on him in case he misbehaves.

My bad, he is a weak outside linebacker, he is projected to go edge but at 6-2 is considered small for that. I 've read about moving him inside, sorry for confusion

    Stuff like this

2023 NFL Draft: Nolan Smith Should Move to Inside Linebacker
    Mike Zimmer Marvin Lewis
    March 9, 2023

Georgia pass rusher Nolan Smith (scouting report) was one of the biggest winners of the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.39 40-yard dash and posting a 41.5-inch vertical and 10-foot, 8-inch broad jump. It solidified his status as one of the best overall athletes in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is smaller than most edge rushers at 6-foot-2, 238 pounds, but Mike Zimmer and Marvin Lewis make a case that Smith’s true home as a linebacker may be on the inside, and he could be a force lining up over the middle and running the occasional blitz.

I hadn't seen the projection to the inside, but I know he played outside in college. He would be coming off an injury and changing positions, so no, I don't like him at 17 at all.

I heard on a few different podcasts mention the possibility of Smith moving to ILB, at #32 he would be worth taking a chance on.

If we want to try to convert a highly productive, undersized, fast edge guy to ILB we can grab Herbig from Wisconsin later.

He isn't an Inside LB. And it looks like he is uninterested in switching positions

    Herbig doesn't run a 4.3 though.
