Either Haley or the OL Coach ....After watching the game again it looked like we went back to the man on man stuff or more reach Zone blocking and The Chargers tour us a new one because of it.....The best games we have had running the ball we used the Combo block,,it seems we felt we could handle them 1 on 1 and reach block,,the problem came when the D put extra guys right in the A Gaps......

The Chargers played tight on the outside and a lot of cover 1 our inability to take advantage of that over the top simply gave them to big of an advantage.....We must practice the Deep ball,we need to hit that play to open up the rest of our game....Time for Haley to get a little more creative and use the tools a bit more...I think he has done a nice Job ,but our poor play from the OL coupled with poor play from our WR spots is choking his Offense out...

Time to think outside the box with plays that fit our guys.....As I eluded to last week I would Love 3rd. and short to become more of a PA down,,IMO we need to do it from that same 2 TE set but add a FB and let Plax play the other TE instead of Paulson...With Miller and Plax at TE this would give us 2 nice targets for PA Miller runs a skinny Post and Plax runs a deep post behind it from the other side, let AB be the single WR and his route is a Square in as we call it....Just about 4 yards and turn right towards the LB'S....This would give Ben 3 nice targets right in the middle of the field the depth would be right and it will be open or the extra run stoper will have to get into coverage.....This would give the OL the space they need to cobo block and it would allow our Power runners to at least hit the LOS without having to dodge penetration in the backfield....

We use this play a lot against A gap Penetration, and I expect to see a bunch of this against us moving forward unless we can connect on deep balls or get our speed guys off the line a lot quicker...Make no mistake the game of Football truley is a Team sport and to make things work each group has to feed off each other...This is where we need work IMO each group helping out the next the Play design I talked about above is Football 101,get a TE who can block and also out run the average guy or jump over hi ie Plax, and add a TE who can block and has great hands and knows how to shield a Defender ie Miller and then add a WR with good speed and great open field ability and it will force Teams to change on the fly...The reason I love this type of play is you attack Multiple areas straight down the field and gives the Offense and QB 4 great reads ...

    Pound it....0-3 yards exected..
PA it....Skinny post anywhere from 7 yards to the Endzone...
PA it ...Deep post anywhere from 12 yards to the Endzone....
PA it ....Square In anywhere from 4 yards to the Endzone...

Believe it or not after you hit a few PA passes from such a play then the Running play becomes the most Dangerous,it also aids in setting a tEam up for later as I have done many a time call this PA play again, again, and again and late in the game give it to the RB and watch him bust a huge 1...It worked to perfection a few seasons ago and won us a playoff game ,short time left they just knew we wher looking for the PA and I told the QB to give it because I watched the D look more and more towards the pass My Fb took it 50 yards after he broke a Tackle while everyone else was looking pass....This is why I don't value speed at RB as much as some do,,,a Power runner against the right set at the right time can break that 1 or 2 tackles and have nothing ,but grass in front of him.....Dwyer is such a guy and we need to find ways to get him and Redman 1 on 1 in the hole....When we do that we get 100 plus when we don't our running game looks bad....Thats the essense of a Power running game ...

Sorry for the long post ,but I am suffering from post FB season blues....No guys to Coach,No tape to watch,No Teams to prepare for,No problems to fix ,,you get the point so now I work for the Steelers until spring.... For The Love Of the Game..LOL

I love PA, especially for Ben. Ben is not a Manning or Brady who can go shotgun all game. Between him, our line, and our young receivers the efficiency just isn't there. We need a run game that will sell the PA though, I'm not sure we have one right now....

I've also felt Ben has a strong arm, but he doesn't have a lot of accuracy on the deep throws. PA helps the receivers get wide open and have a much bigger target.....

We put up 24 points with all that lousy field position and a holding penalty by Colon before he left injured. Yes, the offense shoulda woulda coulda done better in the first half. But this game wasn't decided by the offense alone. Needing to make a stop, the defense went out and gave up a 9 minuted drive resulting in a touchdown. Get off the field and let your offense come in with some decent field position and it is a different game. Then, to make things worse, we have 30 yard return negated by a holding penalty. Now, the offense is at the 10 yard line and Paulson gets pushed into the path of the ball that wasn't thrown forward and our number 1 receiver has a brain cramp and doesn't push it out of bounds.

we need the o-line to establish a run game before they even consider using play action as a deterant. we have not done that all year. it all starts up front. this is exactly what is killing this offense.

People, we were never in this game. The score was no
indication of the game. It was a total BEATDOWN.

Couldn't agree more. Bolts were in prevent much of the 4th qtr, otherwise who knows what the score really would have been.

PWP....your post is spot on. It seems that the Steelers gravitate away from a sucessful game plan all the time. In game adjustments are a necessity - but why turn your back on a successful game scheme/plan for no reason??? WTF??? :hmmm:

In most other games 24 points is about the max. This offense isn't tearing it up. It's mostly about the D holding other teams at or below 17 points.
