Something to think about. He's already surpassed your Mike Tomczak's and Tommy Maddox's of the world

I believe Tommy Maddox made the playoffs as a QB with the Steelers multiple times and certainly had better numbers.

Based on what? 2002 Tommy Maddox lead the Steelers to the playoffs and pulled off one of the NFLs greatest playoff comebacks against the Browns.

1996 Mike Tomczak lead the Steelers to a 10-6 record and a playoff appearance.

Pickett is getting better each week, but I'm not sure you thought this thread through. Right now the only two Steelers quarterbacks Pickett has surpassed are Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. Even then just barely.

Let me start by saying that I think Kenny Pickett is gonna be a damn good quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But he hasn’t surpassed those two guys yet.

correct - Kenny ain't no Tommy, yet. Of course, Tommy Gun had Hines, Plax and ElPee + Famous Amous Z, I think?

He is not getting TDs in the redzone. I'd wait on the better than most comparison.

I know what the OP is getting at, clearly Pickett hasn’t been playing long enough to have better accomplishments yet but as far as evaluation and projection, especially the later, he will be a better QB then those two.

I sure hope a 1st round draft pick rookie would have more potential than the random QBs that have come and gone between the two HoF QBs Steelers have had.

so I agree with OP with the potential sentiment.

Just be more impressed at the 49ers Roster. Its hell of lot more talented than the Steelers roster of players.

Through Kenny Pickett in there and see how he does but he looks tons better.

49ers have All-Pros all over the place both sides of ball

Brock Purdy came into the game unexpectedly and played well. Let's see how he does against Tampa with a week to prepare for him. Bailey Zappe looked like the next Tom Brady for his first couple of games before faltering and taking a seat behind Mac Jones again.

We've all seen players at all positions light it up as rookies and then struggle their sophomore years. Next season opposing teams will have lots of tape on him and an entire off-season to figure him out. It's just way too early to start comparing him to previously QBs

Yeah but that's not what he said. He said that he had already surpassed them. Simply not true.

two more TD's would be in his pocket if his receivers would catch them. laid one right in the hands of pickens and one right in the hands of DJ.

he has had quite a few dropped by these receivers besides the clear TD passes.

he imo looked even better than Jimmy g has all yr. It was his confidence that I liked. The whole team is riding with him and seem to be extremely confident in him. We will see. And this Steelers roster isn’t bad. It’s not 49ers but it’s pretty good.

You know a question I've always wanted to ask a Lamar Jackson lover...
Why doesn't Jimmy G get the same support as Lamar Jackson???
I mean the first thing people will say to defend Jackson is His winning record....even if half of those have come off His Kickers foot, but if You use this for Jimmy G somehow its not the same.
Yet the Ravens are 2-4 without Lamar Jackson since He's been the starter, and the 49ers are 7 -29 without Jimmy G as the starter :hmm::shrug:
    Seems bias IMO.
    With Lamar....one whole playoff win.
With Jimmy G...a SB, and a NFC championship.
    Hmmmm:hmm:

Lamar Jackson is overrated. How many games has he thrown int.How many games has he fumbled. Oh wait Hes prob not playing this week. Forget him. When Kenny gets over TD/int ratio I'll be happy, to me Kenny is great.

At this point, all Kenny has is potential. I have yet to see a complete game.

As mentioned, he needs to throw some red zone TDs and hit some long balls.

QB is a very tough position. I much rather see KP progress while winning games. Would like to have the INT from the Dolphins game back. Throwing a TD there would have been a huge step forward. Even running for a first then leading the team to a score. But alas, he has many more games to show some magic.

And both of those players have already thrown temper tantrums about not being targeted enough.

Tomczak and Maddox won playoff games vs. Colts ('96) and Browns ('02). Until Pickett wins a playoff game... he is not at their level.

Thats not how you measure the quality of a QB or otherwise Trent Dilfer is better than Marino because he won a SB.

Pickett will surpass those two by next season, they weren’t very good QB’s.

Super Ben was terrible in the playoffs from '11 to '21. I hope Pickett puts up better numbers than Roethlisberger did during those years.
