Ben would have, we would have........

Are you saying that a lot this first season without Ben??

Reason I am asking: Wife wanted to travel 3 hours away to shop Sunday. Turned out great for me as the Steelers were not on at home and I had the joy of watching them with other Steeler fans where we traveled to.

Motel's really vacant there and they let a group of Steeler fans (6 guys) watch in the lobby. They give the motel a few bucks and they said they do it often. I knew none of them but it was great watching a win together. Now I will admit I do this too. In the second half they said the following phrases at least 5 times each: "no way that happens with Ben in there." "This is where we miss Ben." Ben picks that up." They did what I guess many of us do and said young Ben or prime Ben.

When we were up 3 with 5-6 minutes left and receiving the kick-off they were saying if Ben was in there this game would be ours. They were young guys but I wanted to ask if they have watched the Steelers when we were up 3 with 5-6 minutes and Ben was QB??? We all sweated balls but it must have been nice to be that confident with a 3 point lead and 5 minutes left

I can remember doing it a year or two after Bradshaw retired.

When they were on the other side, down by three with that time left, always had confidence Ben would get it done. Often he did. Christmas vs Ravens with immaculate extension is one such example. I was at game vs Cowboys when he did fake spike. Unfortunately, defense played fake D in last 45 seconds.

 

I catch Myself thinking it, but Ben is retired, and I'm actually thinking We may have a Good one(Qb) here. Only a hater, or a pessimist would say they are seeing no improvement . If He keeps improving game by game....We definitely could have something.

 

When we were up with 5-6 minutes to play we could count on a heavy dose of Bettis. By then he had usually worn them out and you could see they didn't want to try and tackle him anymore. I miss that.

 

Sounds like he watched the game in a psychiatric ward.

I actually don't do that. I think the last two years that Ben played made me hungry for change.

 

The spike was fake and the d was fake, but the failed 2 pointers the fake coach chased the whole game were all too real. Four in total, including one when the score was 6-0 early in the first quarter, is what lost that game.

 

I haven't uttered or even thought of Ben this entire season. He was entertaining and sometimes frustrating to watch but his time is over. Especially considering the way he played the last few seasons.

 

I echo what some are saying that I haven't thought about Ben at all. Its was time for him to go.

Agree. I think about him when his name is brought up on here. I think about KP during the game, not "Well, Ben would have done this or that." It's a waste of energy.

 

50 years ago when my friends and I were bored we would get a cooler of beer and drive down to Dixmont State Hospital to watch the loonies

 

Mayview State Hospital was right in my back yard. I didn't even have to leave my street to watch them wander aimlessly from that non fenced compound.

 

As bad as the 0-line has been in pass blocking and just letting defenders in untouched until just recently to a lesser extent, I think Ben would have been injured badly or performed poorly if he started this year.

Bottom line is we were due a bad year breaking in a new starter after Ben and we were lucky to get first QB in the draft. Much to be thankful for really.
