Cowher also claims Rooneys account of drafting Ben isnt accurate. Pretty well documented that Bill wanted the lineman and preferred Rivers to Ben.

    I believe Rooney.

    You sure diverted my comment

People pick a narrative and stick to it

I keep seeing signs around me to that effect

You have no idea if he would have been a successful WR but we do know he had success as a QB that many other QBs didn’t have.

I just think it’s over the top to say he shouldn’t have played QB just because he didnt become a franchise QB.

In a way (and this will be controversial), I think the Steelers may have been better off if Rivers had been their guy that year. Don’t hate me @S.T.D.

Huh? I’m saying just because Cowher said something so what?

I find his comment about Stewart pretty stupid.

I was searching for something else but came across this. Good read that covers some things we are discussing.

One being that a head coach doesnt always make the right choice at QB. Cowher starting Graham was dumb and playing well in practice isnt the be all end all.

Another being that Gilbride wasn’t a good fit for Stewart nor did he care about winning if it wasnt how he wanted to.

I remember a lot of scuttlebutt about Rivers that year and Cowher apparently loved the guy. There were certainly no character issues with Rivers like there was with Ben early in his career. At the end of the day, Ben won two Lombardis and played in three Super Bowls and Rivers played in none. We can’t rewrite history but I often wonder how their respective careers would have gone had their roles been reversed. Ben should be thankful every day that he landed with the most stable organization in all of sports and that the Rooney family stuck with him through his stupidity.

No ....I never said that ...of course He should have tried, but like Trubisky....We should have recognized sooner when to be done with Him. Difference between Him, and others Qbs .....He could play other positions....Well....
Hell I don't hate the Guy. I had 2 of his jerseys....., and still have one....but.....
IMO....He had 3 OCs because they were trying to force a Qb that should not Be a Qb in the NFL to be a Qb. Also this whole not playing up to his strength is unfair. They had more plays for him than You remember. Only problem is when they needed Him to play from the pocket(which so far all Qbs have to do) He couldn't. I think a lot of You forget how many times We won back then with Him throwing more picks than TDs. The man had 77 tds , and 84 ints.....thats not good any way You slice it....only our great team saved Him for complete mediocrity.

It all worked out for Gilbride....at least I believe so....He won 2 SBs as a OC in New York. Trubisky is a indirect payback for Us letting Kordell go to Chicago. LoL :lolol:

You’re right, but I did see flashes in those limited times he played receiver that led me to believe he could have made the transition successfully had he committed to doing so.

He could have had a 3rd instead of being fired if he adapted scheme to talent and instead of forcing player to fit scheme ;)

Hard to say, Rivers had good coaching as well as talent around him and didn’t win. Not sure he could have won here either.

That’s a good point. And Ben was made for AFC North football and I’m not sure Rivers was that kind of player.

Didn't Bill's wife teach at NC State.
    Probably more familiar with Rivers.

I don't follow or watch Jacksonville except when they are kicking our ass but I think they threw Trevor Lawrence to the lions his rookie year and they pretty much sucked. Now I'm hearing from the talking heads he seems to be coming around.

This should be what the Steelers do with Pickett. Alas, Steelers win today and trub gets a pass for sure. I was shocked how many Steeler fans I ran into today that hope bad things happen today.

I think he’s overrated as well. Their scheme is a perfect fit, and the strong running game sets up play action and bootlegs to take pressure off of him.
