Modern NFL. Tackling is actually poor across the league....., and all the rules added are not a help....don't do this, stay away from doing that....is Your helmet too close to the offenses helmet....so on ,and so forth....the offenses have every single advantage....not that it helps our Offense. LoL

Basic tackling should apply , the last game it looked like a pinball machine in the defensive backfield WTF

Agreed but it starts in college. Can't remember thecteams but saw a video where the qb was tackled still holding the ball..was down on his back and threw it. They called it roughing the QB. It was by all accounts a normal tackle and sack, but they called the penalty and it stuck. It's gotten beyond insane.

They are just equipping themselves very well for the future when it all becomes flag football. We are well ahead of the curve on this one, Relax.

Welcome to the board Stephen. How did you find this wonderful opportunity?

    FYI:

Hope you have on your big boy pants because it gets heated in here.

And you will see how most posts just seem to go off the rails forgetting the topic.

There are a bunch of posters who have genuine takes even if you don't agree.

But we all come here for one thing, the love of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Well most do :hehehe:

They can’t tackle because Tomlinson isn’t doing what Knoll did.

They are focused on run blocking.

Honestly the Steelers tackling has actually improved over the last couple of seasons. A few years back tackling was horrendous. A conscious effort was made to improve, and for the most part the Steelers have been much better in that area. I do agree with the OP that the tackling was poor vs the Browns.

Adding to what you said, I think all the weird sub-packages you see now contributes to poor tackling. Coordinators are so worried about getting specialized guys into the game for situational football that it screws up the continuity of the defense.

Tackling is a football fundamental that should have been taught at early stage (Pee-wees) midget football.
through High School Etc. The collective bargaining agreement signed by players takes away most opportunities for players to practice tackling
in a live setting. This is why you see such poor tackling. Welcome aboard.

It's been bad for several years. I noticed the Miles Jack actually tries to wrap up the O players when he tackles. For many years, many Steelers D player just looked like they were *sort of* reaching toward the ball carrier, or *sort of* jumping toward them. But while it's still not great, it looks better this season than it has. Not that just looking a little better is a great comfort.

Can you think of any other football basics they do well as a team under Tomlin, because I can't.

Also, they're trying to go for the big hit instead of wrapping the runner up. With a good tackling technique. This league will not allow you ... to bring the guy down ... by any means necessary
