    :hmm:

    For a cap numbers guy... he seemed to have a lot of interest. Another interesting collection of tidbits is this;

    I am not saying... I am just saying.

    this says a lot about the steelers thinking of the trenches. mostly the o-line thinking team wise as opposed to fans thinking and the draft. interesting take on things. :cool:

    I’m going to use exactly that. It has the local feel to it.

    Maybe on Colbert

    I retired 4 times

    On two of them I was contracted to stay on as a consultant until the new person was up to speed and to provide background information as needed

    Both times it took about a month until I was just in the way

    I gave the new guy my phone number and told them to call anytime occasionally I still get a call for info

    real good question. I thought the same thing.

    but someone replied to me, what qualified Khan to become a cap guy?

    Dan Rooney had experience as a ball boy, but what qualified him to become a Hall of Fame team president?

    Colbert was a high school “trainer” when he was a junior in HS
    His head coach and assistant coach eventually wound up working for him in the pros.

    1.... both Khan and Pickett make me laugh and think of the joke I posted about just going down the hall and hiring the water boy for oline coach

    2...I guessed Omar was always the guy, but I'm really excited be Weidl

    3... can't wait to post this after every draft pick or FA signing I'm not thrilled about

    I always wanted a fresh perspective with recruiting and drafting, and will be getting it with Weidle and White. I think Khan and Tomlin will get the final say, but will concede to Weidle and White's opinion for drafting. It's not like Khan doesn't have experience in scouting as well. I wish this new FO well. If they do great, then that means the team in itself shoubld do great. It was a great run with Colbert, can't wait to see what Khan does.

    Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot talks about this via an article here. Among the welcome changes would be two options for me;

    1.) More Attempts at Smal School Players:

    Ricardo was the last Small School player that was selected within the first two rounds and Javon Hargrave was the final Small School player Colbert ever took within the first three. Truth be told, unearthing more gems like Javon is always a welcome addition.

    2.) Acquiring More Options Via Trading Down;

    Andy Weidl was notorious for trading down during his time with not just the Eagles but the Ravens as well. For Colbert, trading down did not happen to often; only 14 total pick to pick trades by Colbert as Alex's article states. Again, this would be a welcome change here.

    Now, if there is one concern in all of this; how much of a Football Junkie is Omar Kahn?! For that matter, I can imagine that is the hang up of some that still could be dissatisfied as Colbert not only lived for scouting.... the man truly loved they way he lived his profession; his results being his evidence. I do not doubt the likes of Weidl or even Sheldon White (the new personnel director) for scouting is in their blood. Kahn though?!

    His cap wizardry is not to be questioned. How much time can he invest in tape study though?! That is a fair question to ponder for certain.

    Those changes will depend if Tomlin feels the same way and hasn’t been lock step with Colbert this whole time. I don’t think that will be the case so especially don’t expect a lot of trading down to happen.

    Tomlin has been here nearly 20 years, it’s his team his show and he will be calling the shots. It will of course be a collaborative effort just as it has always been but Tomlin will be the final say. Guarantee it.

    Well this signals more power for Tomlin. No excuses now. Personally I would have hired from outside the organization.

    Fair enough.

    That said, AR 2 interjecting is not out of the question. Dan did it with Big Ben. No reason to believe AR 2 would not via Tomlin. Then again, how much more time does AR 2 have?!

    He is 70 yes but is he willing to continue this going into his 80s?! Time will tell.

    The would have only gotten draft picks if he was hired as a GM.
