For your reading pleasure. 5 second search produced these, I’m sure I could find more if I wanted to. Top one has the LB’s I listed ahead of Leonard and Mayocks has both Edmunds and other LB’s ahead of him.

    https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2018/03/12/2018-nfl-draft-rankings-the-draft-wire-300/

    https://www.nfl.com/news/mike-mayock-s-2018-nfl-draft-top-100-prospect-rankings-0ap3000000928186

And you misunderstood, I was pointing out that even without the pro days, those are players they have already locked in on. Who they send to the pro days just makes the fans aware of who they are targeting.

I had identified other rankings from 2018 that had other available LBs ranked higher than Leonard in an earlier thread (maybe 2-3 months or so ago), but I’d rather see this discussion die again than go there.

I don't misunderstand at all. As we both said, passing on the pro day is an indication that they don't want the player.

I've seen those. I've also posted others that show exactly what I'm talking about.

I would not draft Daxton Hill. He is built like a corner at 6-0 191. That is not a good frame for a safety.

I think Kyle Hamilton ND may slide, and he could be an option, but I would not draft him either if he does not test faster than his combine 40. Hopefully the Steelers have better data on the player than the combine.

I think better options for the Steelers are Nick Cross MD who I would have no problem taking at 20 because he is a day 1 starter, and then Dane Belton of Iowa, Smoke Monday AUB, Marquese Bell FAMU, and Tycen Anderson TOL.

Sorry Elvis, I believe we have reached the moment of truth, lets see!

Yes, Scribe, I’ve seen those rankings as well so how have you been pushing the argument that they should have drafted the next highest ranked LB when there are multiple lists with different rankings?

The only way to say they should have picked Leonard is??????

    Survey says: Hindsight.

You wouldn’t take Hamilton at #20 because of his 40 time? Have you watched him play?

Considering the Steelers have not sent any major scouts to the likes of Iowa, I seriously doubt Dane Belton is in consideration. That said, I have already been on record in stating that Nick Cross is a favorable option due to the teams history with Maryland based players since Sean Davis. However, to take Nick Cross at pick 20 is playing with fire in my opinion. Yes, he possess the necessary athleticism to succeed at the position but again, as with many of these players, the more finite aspects of his game are severely lacking; his angles when it comes to tackling being a major red flag. Another red flag is his performance in man coverage in the slot; another major red flag given how many slot options nowadays are not just explosive off the line but also quick in their routes.

Regarding Kyle Hamilton.... in a draft where the Steelers do not have to worry about their QB and Terrell Edmunds leaves... he is the safety I would entertain to the point of trading up for. For that matter, he is one of three safeties who Mike Tomlin and Teryl Austin would have a FIELD DAY with in terms of assignments; JaQuan Brisker and Nick Cross being the other two.

If the Steelers were not so HELL BENT on acquiring Malik Willis, I would oh most DEFINITLEY entertain the idea of Kyle Hamilton. For that matter, I am 100% certain that even @HeinzMustard@HeinzMustard would as well... and he HATES trading up for just about any Defensive Player in this class not named Jordan Davis!!

    For me, Kyle Hamilton has been everything I thought he would be since his Freshman Year at Notre Dame. He has only gotten better since that day and is now, by many accounts, the best player overall in the class. Whoever drafts Hamilton is going to be very happy no matter where he needs to line up. The only way to make him into a bust is of two possibilities;

1.) Put him as a IDL (Interior Defensive Lineman).

2.) Force him to play at one spot (this is what is happening currently with Isaiah Simmons and why he has not produced like Kliff and the Cards thought he would).

My order of Preference based on drafts I've seen:
    Jordan Davis
    Jameson Williams
    Devonte Wyatt
Trade back for a 1st next year and a 3rd this year.
    Chris Olave

I'm assuming Sauce Gardner and Derek Stingley won't be available.

Skip QB all together. We'll get into that well next year.

Besides that. Get 2 WR. One in the top 4 picks and then a late pick.

    Round 1:Jameson Williams/ Drake London/ Chris Olave

Round 2: George Pickens/ Skky Moore / Jahan Dotson

Round 3: Alex Pierce/ Christian Watson/ Jalwn Tolbert/ John Mechie

Rd4: Calvin Austin, David Bell, Wandale Robinson

Point being WR, CB/S, DL, LB. Those are the 4 top 4 pick groups.

He ran 4.59 40. I would not take a safety with that score in first round.

I really hope the Steelers don’t trade up we need all the draft capital we can get. Holes at OT-WR-QB-DL-LB-CB-SS

We need to keep all our picks and accept a rebuild with Mitch Trubisky. None of the QBs in this draft are guaranteed NFL starters more likely multi year projects at best. Tank this year and get your guy next draft while building the roster.

I grabbed PFF’s list of the NFL’s top safeties heading into last season and checked official combine 40 times:
    1. Justin Simmons (2x All Pro) 4.61
    2. Harrison Smith 4.54 (2x All Pro, 6x Pro Bowl)
    3. John Johnson III 4.61
    4. Marcus Williams 4.57

    Some other noteworthy safeties:
    Adrian Amos 4.56
    Jamal Adams 4.56
    Micah Hyde 4.56

The list can go on and on. He’s a safety, not an corner that you’re going to put on a deep threat WR 1v1 in press coverage. I’d rather have a super safety who ran an official 4.59 than a guy like Edmunds who runs a 4.4 in the wrong direction.

Whenever someone mentions Edmunds, Scribe can’t resist resurrecting his “we should have drafted Leonard” hindsight argument, and Blast can’t help but respond. It’s like 2 fish fighting over a worm that they know is on a hook, but they’ve just got to have it anyway.

I had to, I thought even Scribe could see what is so plainly evident to the rest of us.

He’ll never admit it, he’s too dug in after all these years.

Clearly it’s not hindsight because the Steelers should have been looking at the list Scribe was and ignore the multiple lists that had other LB’s higher

Keep in mind some schools have their pro days at the same time, so if a big school has their pro day Tomlin/Colbert will most likely go there.

Moving up to draft anyone will be insane. They simply don't have the capital. At this point, if gladly move out of the 20 spot for 2 2nd round picks and a 5th.

For example, a trade with Chicago would be perfect. Assuming they had someone they wanted. I'd rather have the 39 and 48 picks that the 20th.

In summary: Its defense at 20 and it's Trubisky's time to shine with Mason nipping at his heels and Haskins busy on his cell phone
