Western PA native, California transplant here. Long time reader, first time poster.

As there's been a lot of talk today about whether the Steelers should've tried harder to sign Watson, especially now that the hated Browns got him, I just wanted to say I'm much happier with Trubinsky. Here's why:

I know this might not be an issue back home, but out here ALL anybody talks about when you mention Big Ben is the assault allegations. I know, I know. No charges were ever filed. He was cleared. But the farther you get away from Pittsburgh, the more you realize that's his image and what he'll always be known for, deserving or not.

Watson could end up being way shadier than Ben ever was. Twenty two massage therapists accused him of sexual assault and harassment. He may be cleared of all those charges but I don't think that will repair his image. It didn't for Ben.

In contrast, in 2020, Mitch Trubisky was awarded the Bears "Good Guy Award."

I've been a proud Steeler fan all my life...but I really don't want to root for anybody with questionable character anymore, which can often be tough in today's "win at all cost" NFL fanbase.

I apologize if this topic has already been addressed on another thread. Thanks for reading.

Big Bens 2 out of 3 SB's will be what he's known for to me. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

Watson will run for his life in Cleveland.

Similar here in San Diego. Are you in SF or, just general Bay Area?

I'm in SF proper. Lot of Pittsburgh transplants here. But gotta find a new Steeler bar! Giordano Brothers in the Mission just closed. Served Primanti-style sandwiches and best pierogis in town.

I thought you were going to post something that was actually going to give us hope. Too much emphasis is placed on these players private lives off the field imo and the reality is there's skeletons in everyone's closet whether you're a player or not. Let him that is w/o sin cast the first stones. We're still talking about allegations regardless of what you've read or heard and when it's all said and done he'll most definitely have paid the cost, but I'm not one to hold someones past against them where they cant move forward from something that has been a stain on their life...especially when it involves a game. When does redemption and rehabilitation ever become a topic of discussion among you so righteous people??

What would concern me from the management point of view is what started the whole trade me now issue, soon after he signed a huge contract. Do not know the whole story of course, but this guy just might be another Brady, good on the field but a nightmare to please, just saying.

I didnt think it was any secret he wanted more diversity with the coaching and was questioning a lot of moves that seemed counteractive to building a winning franchise...most notably trading away DeAndre Hopkins after said contract was agreed to. He also didnt think the organization was dedicated to social causes.

I never got the impression Brady was difficult to work with and if he was his winning trumped all that. Bradys biggest issue from what I could tell while in NE was his concern of not keeping enough weapons around him and commitment to those players long term. Same as any other QB I would say.

Looks like there is now three Cali guys in here!

I'm in LA, grew up in the south hills.
    Welcome to the board

As I'm sure you've already noticed there some folks that.... Well, I'm sure you get it.

I don't want scumbags but we all carry our warts forever. I hope those effected can find security, help, and justice and Watson doesn't repeat his actions.

I know I was out of town when that game was played. Besides, I can't give any money to the Charger organization!

I think I'm a jinx. I've been to four Steeler games out here and we lost EVERY ONE!
Twice to awful Raider teams and twice to the Niners, including the last MNF game at Candlestick when the lights went out after a power outage.
So you don't want me there

Jerome Bettis actually won the NFL's Good Guy Award back in 2005.

I’ve got a feeling that this Watson-Browns marriage is going to end very, very badly after a couple of years of misery and heartache!
