I will be very surprised if Kenny Pickett is not drafted by Carolina Panthers,
unless someone comes up with a trading partner before Carolina makes their pick.

Lamar Jackson is a really good football player.
As a QB? Not so much. He doesn't read well and if you force him in the pocket, he becomes a liability.
We've seen that every time it is a big game for him.
Let him out of the pocket, he will beat you to death with those runs and off schedule passes.
Pittsburgh defense needs to step it up, they were not good against the run.

But at the same time, they do need to score some points.

No, it isn't. They shouldn't spend a first-round draft pick on a quarterback who won't be nearly enough to help them compete with guys like Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow. No way in hell is 75 percent of Jackson worthy of a first-round pick.

Then you would be taking a limited offense that will keep the Steelers roughly where they have been most of the last 10 years, often in the playoffs, but not good enough to win a Super Bowl.

I'm talking about Jackson, not Willis. At this point, I'm not even convinced that Willis can come close to what Jackson is in the NFL.

Howell is only 6-1. Pickett is 6-3.

Thanks for not making me dig up the stats. Yeah, Lamar should excite us when he’s done nothing against us but beat a QB combo of Rudolph and Duck.

Earlier in the season Jackson seemed to have taken a step forward as a passer, I believe the mounting injuries with that team derailed his season.

He can easily do that in the NFL. Allen just ran for around 750 yards this season, Willis definitely can.

We don't have a chance to get Pickett. Also to my point Sam is physical.

Give me a quarterback who has good pocket awareness with a strong and accurate arm and whose success in running the football is set up by his ability to burn you in the passing game any day over a quarterback whose success in the passing game is dependent upon his ability to run the football. Hope that made sense, lol.

Don't forget though there are always those picks every draft where a team takes a player way too high. All it takes is one.

No, it does. If I'm looking for a guy to draft to start in 2022 then Pickett is the guy. He can probably get you to the playoffs and his ceiling is probably above average to good.

If the goal is to get the guy with the highest ceiling, a guy that can potentially be great, then I think Willis is the guy. Their (Pickett vs Willis) completion percentages are about the same, Willis has a strong arm, Pickett is probably a little more accurate right now and Pickett is probably better at reading defenses right now.

Don't' get me wrong, I like Pickett and if that is who they took I would be fine with it. Willis defiantly has the higher chance of being a bust. It's just a matter of do you want to go low risk low reward or high risk high reward.

I really think it's gonna be Howell whether we like it or not. They've spent a lot of time scouting him and more often than not when the Steelers spend a lot of time with a player they get him even if it's a reach.

Not likely for this reason. Many teams subscribe to the theory that you shouldn't take a RB in round 1. Therefore most teams were perfectly fine letting Najee drop to us even if it was well known.
Quarterbacks on the other hand are the most important position and are still highly coveted in the first round. And I think Joe Burrow's performance is gonna make teams even more first round QB happy this year because they're thinking see, see what happened!

Remembering all the Qbs taken in the top 5 the last 20 plus years that were not only below average, but absolute busts. Gms cannot help themselves, especially when it comes to QBs. For Pickett to go top 5 would not surprise me at all.

Remember when Mahomes went and all the experts and probably every single person here thought Reid had lost his mind

Pro Football Network said that after seeing Pickett throw not particularly well in the rain at Senior Bowl practice has some teams concerned about the size of his hands. They have him falling to #20 to the Steelers.
Their mock for rounds 2 and 3 have the Steelers taking Guard Lecitus Smith from VA Tech in the second round and with 2 picks in the third round they have us taking OT Bernhard Raimann from Central Michigan and LB Brian Asamoah from Oklahoma.

I just saw a mock that had Willis going to Washington , and Picket going to us at 20, we also took
Lecitus Smith, G, Virginia Tech in the 2nd
Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma in the 3rd

Teams have to worry about Allen throwing the ball as well. Willis doesn’t seem to have that same threat.

Allen ran for 631 yards his first season, wasn’t the player he is now with his arm.

There is no question Willis will get his yards on the ground, it’s what he can do in the air that remains to be seen.
