They didn't have much cap space at the start of free agency, which is when Hilton left, they chose to re-sign Sutton because he's more versatile and he came cheaper.

Bengals swore up and down Burfict wasn't dirty just an "old school football player."

Anyone cheering for the Bengals deserves a blindside tackle from Deebo.

Remember the play where the o line blocked in one direction but the back caught a screen pass and got stuffed by 3 or 4 Chiefs defenders and Burrow got on him for going the wrong way? The Steelers do that and throw it to Harris on the opposite side of the way the o line is moving but Canada runs that as a play and he has to take on multiple defenders alone.

The cap room they freed up later could have been available sooner. Also, they didn't even make Hilton an offer.

I said the same thing in another thread but a poster told me 5 years so I feel better. He made a good point. When Mr. Burrow wants the money, and he will, the Bengals will have to deal with it and their track record isn't all that great.

On the flip side what if Burrow has the longevity of Brady, Rodger's or Ben??

And yet the Detroit Lions just keep on sucking. Then again the Rams going to the SB with their old QB might be a win for them:)

Maybe if we do find one we will have a different guy leading him.

Hmmmmm (not the member of board) good question. IMO most consider a franchise QB a guy who starts on the same team for say around a decade. Has a great overall record and is seen a lot in the Playoffs plus wins a SB or two.

Now take Stafford when he was a Lion. Was he a franchise QB?? Spent over a decade with same team. Success not what I stated above.

Say our boys draft a QB. Guy is our starter for next 10+ years, make Playoffs 4-5 times but never takes us to the show. Would he be our next franchise QB??????????????????

Well, of the 3 you noted, only Brady managed continuity of winning in the postseason. Rodgers hasn’t. Ben certainly didn’t. It sucks that one of our division rivals has a legit franchise QB, but it doesn’t mean that they will dominate.

I agree. Fun part about this SB is two QB's in there for first time. One has way more NFL experience then the other. I can see the Rams front eating Burrow for lunch. Must admit I was very impressed with the second half adjustment the Bengals D made. Don't know who their D coordinator is but he did one hell of a job at halftime.

If I had anymore betting money left I'd bet the under whatever it will be.

We are not doomed and things are looking up already. When Rams played Steelers in SB it was a record for most losses by the two teams reaching the SB, 11 total. Then it happened again when we played Cardinals, 11 total (most Cards). Now that record belongs to Rams/Bengals with 12 total loses.

Gonna be some hard years playing against Burrow. We won't compete if we don't get a talented young arm ourselves.

But how do you think Browns fans feel. Like what the Bengals are doing that should be them, but its not....
Cherry on the Sundae is that OBJ gets traded to Rams and is going to the Super Bowl as well.

They should be way more mad than us Steelers fans.

It's a little bit more than that. Go Look back how they have been building that team since they hired that coach.
I really think it will be bad for the NFL if He succeeds winning a SB that way.

Didn't like that either. That Tampa built, but it was a little different.

The definition of "franchise QB" is like the Justice Potter definition of porn. "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it."

Loosely, I would say it's a QB that a franchise is willing to sign for more than 8 years, either over a single or multiple contracts. If a team is willing to do that, than that says a lot, regardless of the actual results.

So Stafford at Detroit, yes. Goff at LA, borderline. He was signed for 7 years including his rookie contract and the new four year deal that was signed after they tore up the rookie deal after year 3 iirc. Kirk Cousins, no. Andy Dalton at Cincy, yes. They hitched their wagon to him.

McVay is a good guy as is Kyle - I worked around both in Washington.
McVay was the TE's coach, you just knew he was going somewhere. (Though someone pointed out that he made 2 ridiculous challenges Sunday... really poor decisions.)

I liked the Rams approach in that they hired him and said 'we're going to win a Super Bowl' what do you need?
And they made some good decisions ----- Unlike Dan Snyder who tried to do same around the 2000 time frame.
He went out and signed every over the hill star, gave them a ton of money and all they had to do was show up.
    Course if failed... big time.
The Rams kind of went about it differently.
Free Agency has always been about 'hired guns' though the salary cap was supposed to limit it.

Some of you guys sit around and touch yourself to Lamar Jackson (who still is overrated and can’t throw the ball) but talk about people and commenting on the Bengals.

    Amen. He's a 1-trick pony.
Force him to throw, he's going to throw it to you.
Baltimore would be better to use him as Pittsburgh did "Slash" - That guy can run crazy good.
    But his passing? Eeesh.
Reminds me of Vick, remember he had wheels too.. just not a good passer.

Burrows will be a very good QB for a while.
    Pittsburgh better find one.
I don't know if Baker will reach full potential, he was hurt a lot. I don't see him as a great passer anyway.

    This!!

If anything, this another retcon for Browns fans; passing on Big Ben to see the Steelers dominate the Browns and only to potentially see it again in the form of the Bengals... an in state rival at that. What is even more demoralizing is the fact that both Big Ben and Joey B are from Ohio; adding more torment in the process.

Me being a Steelers fan, should the "Battle of Ohio" rivalry be rekindled again... all the better. Truth be told, this season has been the ultimate master class of comeuppance for Browns fans everywhere. As a Steelers fan, I personally could not be any more happier about the fact. Sure, it is classes to state such aspects but fans like them truly are a different breed; doubly so in comparison to Ravens fans.

Regarding the Bengals fans... stating that the Bengals fans from 2015 are the same fans in 2021 is no different than stating the Browns fans from 1981 are the same fans today.

How so? Did I miss someone the Rams traded for?

Dont get me wrong...Im not a fan of trading away the future.. but I do like trading to patch a weakmess.

Trading for Minkah was a home run.. I wanted to trade for Ramsey. But not at 2 #1s and a 4th.. that was a little rich for me.

Ultimately I'm interested in seeing how this works out for the Rams. I have know doubt they went all in for a SB and it worked...NE did the same for years IMO... they were a small core of PATRIOTS...and a revolving group of MERCENARIES

I'm more interested in the Rams 3 or 4 years from now.

I like wining year in and year out
. But I have learned in the last few weeks there is many on this board that would trade 50 years of success to be more like the Bengals.. so I'm pretty sure they would trade 1SB next year for a decade of rebuilding... maybe the Rams will be the model of what to do or not to do

I'm interested in you expanding on your premise @S.T.D@S.T.D if you have the time.
