Why can't the NFL get it right?
Why do games have to end like that?
Buffalo should have had a chance with the ball. Period.
It's a joke that the NFL with all of its rules and nuance completely screws the pooch by ignoring a simple, easy, and fair over time fix.
EACH TEAM SHOULD POSSESS THE BALL ONCE IN OVER TIME!!!!
Such bullsh*t that a game ends that way. Feels empty and incomplete. That game was decided by a flip of the coin.

#1 defense should have never allowed it to go to OT in the first place.

They were facing the #3 offense.
    It's absurd. It's a joke.

Sometimes you need to make a stop to win a game. Complaining about the OT rules are dumb when you allow a team to receive a kickoff, then go 45 yards in 10 seconds. That's why the Bills lost, not because of the coin toss.

Here's how you make the coin toss irrelevant if you're on the Bills sideline

    1. Stop them on D - but assuming you knew you weren't doing that....

    then

    2. Go for 2 after going up 35-33, and you get the ball in your hands to make the FG meaningless.

Not saying that's what I'd do but if you're not wanting to let a coin toss "decide" the game.

The OT rules used to be worse when all you needed was the first team to kick a FG. That definitely favored the coin toss winner. Remember the owners voted on this format.

I told my son at 23-21, this game was going to OT when the Chiefs didn't get a TD and it was easy to see the script.

TD, 2 pt play, late FG then a walk off play.

And that's the script - how many teams with M Lynch type RB don't run it when a TD wins the game, how many teams do what Atl did in that SB, and how many teams up 3 with 13 secs left vs KC/Mahomes lose?

You let a team go 55 yards in 10 seconds and you think it's not somehow not questionable?

Going for 2 wasn't in the script obviously.

But missing an XP was but making a 49 yd FG at 0:00 was :smiley1:

In this 2019 analysis, the coin flip winner won 50.4% of the time since the NFL changed OT rules away from an opening drive FG winning. The coin flip loser won 43.8% of the time with the remaining being ties.

Basically, believe it or not, there's not nearly as big an advantage to winning the coin flip as we think.

Definitely one of the biggest mistakes of the game.

So, anything can happen on a kick return. to me, the biggest mistake was that terrible prevent defense on 1st down at the KC 25. They were trying to prevent a touchdown, not a field goal. Drop 2 safeties back but have your corners up. Do not let Kelcie get 19 yards in a few seconds. Contest that catch, tackle for a 10-yard gain, any of those options and they may not have had the fg attempt. The defense call was ridiculous.

Buffalo should have squib kicked it and forced the Chiefs to field the ball now they have 8 or 9 seconds not 13. Then they should have doubled Kelsi and Hill. It’s a damn shame Allen played his ass off and his coaches let him down.

Yeah, I mean it took the Rams almost 30 seconds to go 60 yards.

If you remember, at that time they were also kicking off from the 35. Teams started on the 30/35 yard line, got 2 first downs or one decent play, and they were in field goal range.

Why not just give both teams ONE chance on offense? That seems to be the most fair. Simple solution. KC scored....now Buffalo gets the ball and has to match that TD or game over.

Why can't they play another 5-8 minutes of normal rules football?

Also how do you get a stop when rules heavily favor offense? All a defense can do nowadays is slow an offense down, it can't stop them.

Not sure on OT rules. If KC would have won coin toss and only got a FG, Buffalo would have got a chance but since they scored a TD game over. I think that is right?????????????????????????????

So if they can't then the game should be over? Buffalo's high powered offense shouldn't get a chance? That's a tough task stopping the KC offense. Just as hard as stopping the Buffalo offense. So it really came down to a flip of the coin to see whose high powered offense got the ball first. The current rules are absurd.

    See above about defense.
IIRC Tyrek Hill was back there for the return. Kick off to him and he's returns one to the Buffalo side of the field and the results are the same.

That's because special teams is also pay of the game... maybe Hill takes it to the house.. maybe he takes 6 weddings off looking for a lane
