So in reading an article by Brook Pryor on ESPN today I discovered that Harris has read the Book of Five Rings, in English I'm assuming since Japanese doesn't seem like something Bama teaches or maybe they do. So he studies the way of the warrior as written by Miyamoto Mushahi. This young man continues to impress.

“By training you will be able to freely control your own body, conquer men with your body, and with sufficient training you will be able to beat men in fights, be able to win with your eye, and beat ten men with your spirit. When you have reached this point, will it not mean you are invincible?”- Miyamoto Mushahi

You can only fight the way you practice- Miyamoto Mushahi

The important thing in strategy is to suppress the enemy's useful actions but allow his useless actions- Miyamoto Mushahi

was this not the way on Monday night?

Reading Sun Tzu doesn't make you a General. Anything from ESPN is garbage so believe what you will. JMO>

Honestly hearing from Harris and the stuff he talks about I can see him studying it. Phil Jackson was into the Art of War and hard to argue with that level of success.

They offer it but not many take advantage of the opportunities. College these days is all about ripping kids and their families off with little more than an app saying they attended, somewhat. Most degrees take decades to pay back and don't amount to much for ROI.

Good stuff and when I realized it was about Najee and not Franco even better. TBH, I didn't think the better NCAA players ever picked a book up. Great College players mean $$$$$ for the Universities. Better for the school if they practice football.

Practice would have been more fun though if his Sensei would have allowed music.

You're probably right but hard for me to understand how that translates into how he plays. Probably more on how he prepares to play. In other words, if he didn't read this, would it make a difference in what we're seeing now? Regardless, it is great reading and impressive he does so. However, this sort of reminds me of the movie "The Natural" when they brought in some mind-numbing lecturer because they were such a bad team and losing. Roy Hobbs got up and walked out. So, if it does make a difference, maybe do a book study of what Harris read with the rest of the team like they did in the movie. JK

That's one of the reasons I admired Joe Pa even to the very end. He had standards for his teams and he didn't want the best players necessarily but he did want them to be the best students they could be. It was also impressive that he didn't run up the score in an effort to impress the voters.

Not a Penn State fan but highly respected Joe Pa. I was a little PO'd when they took down his statue. Not sure what he knew or how involved he was in that incident but it destroyed his legacy and that is just so damn sad.

Winner. Good thing the people of today don't have say over the world, or they would pull down the Pyramids, Roman Colosseum, Greek Parthenon, and other things We would never get 2 see , or read about.
I keep waiting 2 see the Mount Rushmore destroyed.

I have had a varied work history through my early twenties so it is always interesting watching corporations adopting the practices of another successful business in the hope it translates. Worked at Home Depot in 2000 for a year, they had the Sunday meeting where new ppl are put on the spot to see if they know HD priciples like favorite color orange, favorite driver Tony Stewart. I said blue and Mario Andretti when I was forced to do it. They also had morning stretches and a staff meeting to pump you up similar to Walmart's cheer. Four years ago the company I'm at now suddenly started doing stretches and morning meetings and I just shook my head going really the Walmart playbook that's what we are going with.

In an unrelated but relatable tangent I have done some reading into The art of War and looked at strategy by Wellington, Napoleon, Frederich the Great, Rommel. Nothing deep, but got into some of it. I got a civil war game just before Christmas and was playing it when my 10 year old asked me what I was doing and why so I started teaching him some of the concepts like fighting on favorable ground, gaining the high ground, not fighting up hill, scouting and battle field knowledge leading to an edge. Should be surprising to me that the way his mind works he grasped the deeper meaning was planning on using the things we talked about in his gaming. There are several members on the board I'd love to watch them play chess or Total War just because of how they approach discussion.

We had a long discussion on here when the Sandusky stuff was hitting the fan, lots of very heated debate. Several people taking the view that any time a child is in danger you have to act. I remember saying that for Joe's generation they really didn't know what to do with stuff like that. I imagine that my grandparents wouldn't know what to do with that sort of thing. Heck I was 24 and heard my Dad telling a joke to his coworkers where he used the word blow job and I didn't think he knew what the term meant. I mean I probably should have but who thinks their parents are like them when we grow up. anyways you never know how people will react when faced with that sort of thing. I use the same line of thinking when discussing 2nd amendment rights and how most people believe they are heroes until presented with the situation, some do rise to the challenge and others simply say this is none of my business.

Idiots are doing a good job of destroying history in America. The children doing it probably haven't ever read a book in their lives either.
