I mean the other SS the Steelers have started in Ben's tenure is Will Allen and Sean Davis... I think Robert Golden played some SS due to injury, as did Tyrone Carter? Hard to argue that Terrell Edmonds isn't better than those guys.

Probably better to leave that spot blank unless properly filled.

I'd swap Kreider in for Nix

Maybe Marvel Smith in front of Villanueva

I feel like Aaron Smith and Cam Heyward is a toss up. Based on scheme and usage, one could argue Smith was the most effective defensive linemen of his era.

Tyrone Carter was a more reliable SS than Edmunds, but he was also surrounded by far superior talent. Hard to accurately judge that one tbh.

Yeah Gilbert was a great RT when healthy. Steelers were trying to replace Starks most of his time with the Steelers but he stuck it out hahah.

I didn't get Heyward at LE- he almost never lines up there. That's how the Steelers list him though. Why is that? And Tuitt is listed as RDE even though he rarely lines up there?

Heyward can play 2 gap but the decision should be between A Smith and Tuitt no? I don't understand why Heyward is listed at LDE and frankly never noticed it until today. Tuitt plays where A Smith used to in the 3-4 and Heyward plays where Keisel did (well Heyward moved all over this year due to Alualu being injured).

A Smith would have put up bigger sack numbers post Lebeau for sure. I have it LE Smith - Hampton - RE Heyward.

oddly enough he was much better at LT. i seen him say in an interview he was just more comfortable on the left. just like dotson told art moats on his podcast that he was more comfortable on the right. dotson got on the radar when he subbed for decastro and played better than he was. so naturally tomlin and company will keep him on the left ...

Agreed. Smith and Heyward should be the ends.

How does Mike Wallace make the list but not Plexico Burress? The only game Ben started and lost with Plexico on the field was the AFC championship game.

I think they just stuck guys in at the position they played RDE means they are just RDE. Smith was much better than Keisel, so we would just start Heyward and Smith at that position. Same with ILB. We’d start Shazier and Farrior with Timmons as the top backup at both positions.

Maybe because they only played one season together.

Well, in that case, the Bettis Ben played with was not better than Bell. Not better than prime Willie Parker either. I know this list is just for fun, so it's not an exact science.

Had to go back and read to remember. Lost his job in 2005, but regained it due to injury. Tagged the next year. Then another one year deal, than a long term deal. For a guy they were trying to replace that still paid a boatload of cash . That one year tag was near 7 million.

Yeah it's pretty funny. I just remember about Starks that he was way better than Jonathon Scott who he was temporarily replaced with, and that he was close friends with Ben. Was he in Milledgeville during the incident? Feel like he was. I tried to look it up but all I found was a quote from Starks, "Not everything is hard and dry." So that was poor phrasing. Probably was better off in the pre-social media era.

He was the sideline reporter. Replaced Wolfley who moved to the booth to replace Tunch. I believe one game, either pre or regular season he was in the booth. Very decent job.

Wow, that list was garbage. You can tell whomever did that list didn't watch every game Ben played.
