Until harvin there hadn’t been a black punter since 2017-2018. Somewhere around there. The raiders had one around then. Can’t remember his name.

Ha. The thought of race, or people thinking it might be due to race, didn't even occur to me.

Gee, I thought it might be because he's won a SB, and been to another, and that other coaches with similar resumes, like Harbaugh, Peyton, Carroll, or even a McVay, are considered good coaches by the media also.

    Guess I'm naïve.

Hue Jackson was the worst hire of all time. He got a pass. I wonder why?

3-36-1 and Hue Jackson got to do an unchallenged media tour where he blamed ownership, the GM, the QB, the coordinators etc.

Hue even refused to be fired!

He should be the butt of every joke. Urban Meyer had twice the wins in one third of the time as compared to Hue's first two seasons. How is he the worst ever? Meyer didn't travel with the team, kept banging co-eds, skipped team meetings and was still better than Hue.

    ...

Football analysts used to be almost all white, either old school QBs or coaches, and now they are almost all black and black analysts do not bash black QBs or black coaches on TV. This is not true of black Steelers fans on social media or with YouTube channels- the majority of whom want Tomlin gone.

The irony is there are multiple top candidates who happen to be black like Leftwich and Bienemy if the Rooneys are worried about appearing racist... Guaranteed if Tomlin is fired the Steelers will be called racist. It doesn't matter that they hired Tomlin in the first place or that many Steelers coaches are black.

I honestly think Tomlin would be a better GM than HC. He has an eye for talent.

I think you laid out a logical, well-thought, and reasonable argument for how difficult it is to find a top tier NFL head coach. But to use that as an argument on why Tomlin doesn't suck doesn't hold water.

Comparing 1st, 2nd, 3rd year head coaches to a guy who has had the same HC job for 15 years seems fallacious right off the bat. Tomlins shortcomings having to do with asst coach hires, scheme, adjustments, lack of discipline, accountability, clock and game management are well chronicled. These shortcomings may be somewhat expected for a 2nd year HC but not for a 15 year HC who has been tripping over the same crack in the sidewalk every day for 15 years. Not buying it.

The other question I have is: Every HC with a HOF QB ends up with a winning record almost every season- are they all really good coaches?

Umm…err…I’m not so sure about that. Aside from a couple players, the current iteration of Steelers lack serious talent. Either that, or the players just aren’t being developed.

It’s an interesting question. Are there any real world examples that would lead us to an answer?

Hue got a pass? From who?
OK, how about we compare Tomlin to other coaches hired in 2007.

    Lane Kiffin
    Bobby Petrino
    Cam Cameron
    Norv Turner
    Ken Whisenhunt
    Wade Phillips

How many of those are/were better than Tomlin? Petrino was obviously a disaster. Kiffin merely a fiasco. Cameron was awful. Turner took over a team that went 14-2 the year before and lost in the AFC Championship game his rookie year and never got that far again. So you really can't say he's better. Tomlin may have only won a SB with Cowher's players, but Turner didn't win a SB with Marty's players that were arguably a better team. Whisenhunt did get to a SB so you could argue he's as good. Phillips? No.

edit:Let me add, I don't think Tomlin should keep his job, but I also don't think he sucks. We all have a buy by date and I think his has come. At least here.

I think you are cherry picking here. If any of those guys had the same 5-year stretch that Tomlin has had over the past 5 years, they would be fired without a doubt. Especially with a HOF QB for the entire time and arguably the best WR and RB in the league at the same time.

I'm not saying Tomlin didn't achieve success. Of course he did. Hell, he's got a ring and 2 SB appearances. He's never had a losing season (hanging on to that by a thread at the moment). But let's face it. It is time for change in Pittsburgh. The past 5 years have been the same old tired nonsense.

No matter how desperately a few stalwarts are clinging to like a 15% possibility of making the postseason at this stage. Come on, just stop that garbage. This will make 3 of the past 5 seasons with no postseason. And the other 2 of the 5 were embarrassing 1-and-done beatdowns by inferior opponents. Yep, that 5 year stretch would get any of these guys fired, especially if the standard was championships and not to never have a losing record.

Edit: just saw your edit. We can agree on that.

My point is that in the grand scheme he doesn't actually suck. Not compared to most of the dredge that is hired on a yearly basis. That's is my contention as to why the national media considers him a good coach.

It's a tough job. It's one of the few professions where you can reach the very pinnacle of the field and everyone and his brother thinks you're an idiot.

The OL I agree but if you look at the roster they're actually strong in several areas: RB, TE, WR, OLB, S

Dupree left, Nelson left. The defense was stacked last year when healthy. Hargrave got a ridiculous contract from Philly and the Steelers have been weaker at NT since also.

    You can't tell me a healthy Steelers D isn't a strong group.

I don't think Tomlin sucks. I just think sometimes the message gets lost when you've been the coach for so long. Players and coaches become too complacent. It's time for a change. Even if Tomlin sticks around and we would win another Super Bowl I still think it's time for him to go now.

Strong at WR? Are you being serious?

Can you honestly stack up DJ, Claypool, and Ray-Ray, against, let's say the Bengals' Chase, Higgins, and Boyd. Or the Rams, Buccaneers, Cowboys, Bills, Chiefs, Vikings, etc.

We've got bigger needs than wideout, but let's be honest, that corps is average.

The Rams, Bills and Chiefs have 1 Pro Bowl WR and not much else. The Steelers are clearly better. Cowboys is a wash. Bucs and Vikings are better at WR. Bengals are better this year but that's a small sample size.

Juju wants to come back apparently. I'd take DJ, Juju and Claypool over Diggs/Beasley/Sanders.

I don’t think MT sucks. I think he has a control issue and doesn’t want coordinator’s that won’t bow down to him. Always surround yourself with people smarter than you is not something Tomlin subscribes to, and because of this, needs to go.

The color of his skin? Get out of here with that crap. Tomlin is a terrible HC....I wouldn't care if he was Malaysian, Chilean, South African, etc. He needs to get on with his true talent, which is analyst for CBS, FOX, ESPN, NFL Network, etc.
