The bigger question is why did we give Derek Watt 3.5 million dollars?

Like Polamalu, the only thing slowing down Watt are injuries. Yes he is worth $90m

Time will tell, in my opinion it hinges on how long the Steelers reload takes. If they can get back into serious contention with a 2 year turn around then absolutely. If it takes 4-5 years and the majority of the contract then no. Although he is still going to give the Steelers a Hall of Fame career and that in itself is special

    1. I posted this in the wrong thread.
    2. It seemed to be that or nothing, I'll take the pick.

I don't like the $$$ side of sports so try to avoid it.

Team sports take a team but there are certain players that are simply better and can elevate others with their actions and leadership. Look at what Watt did near end of game firing up his mates. Watt is a HUGE factor in the 7 wins and I mean HUGE. One player on a team sport does make a difference (ask the Chicago Bulls in the 90's) but are they worth the money they receive? That is a question that will be argued forever in the sports world.

Probably a good call on the situation. It's a bummer when a player you really enjoy watching has a career on a bad or mediocre team. And some you really wish they could get the ultimate prize in their sport. Glad BUS got his ring after almost costing himself it:) As a little kid I loved Ernie Banks and was sad he never got the ring. Many others for sure.

Another positive of Watt is he makes another player a bit better. Offensive line has to make him their #1 priority and that frees up the other guys. It may not be huge but it helps.

I agree with the premise of your post, but these are the going rates for these type of players.

He's worth every penny paid to him. He makes play after play after play. His presence alone makes everyone better. He's a machine. The dude had two players holding him, and he still got the sack. Watt is a machine.

Surprised nobody asked about Watt's injury today?

Was it a Pinch from his equipment, a cracked rib, a torn peck or something else that could keep him out next week?

    He came back to play.

Unless he was just going on adrenaline, he should be okay

Think of it as part of TJ Watt’s contract. He’s here because hid brother wanted him here.

If its put in perspective of the salaries of other players and the $ generated by the league then it absolutely makes sense to pay the best defensive player in the league the $ he got.

In the post-game Tomlin said Wormley has a groin issue, and Freiermuth a concussion, no mention of Watt.

I understand your point. Personally, I’d much rather have the best defensive player in the entire NFL @ 90M than 5 average players for a combined 90M to fill holes.

And no, I don’t have a #90 jersey. I own a Hines Ward and Ben jersey.

Two solid choices. I only have a #43, and it’s only worn on opening day then goes back in the closet. If I were to get another, it’s #97.

So that’s 2 concussions in a month? Not off to good start there.

Yet somehow he managed to hang on to the ball for a crucial catch. Many would not

Today was an L without TJ. Cam, Haden, TJ, and Joe Sho earned their paychecks today

I think Watt is worth every penny of that huge contract the only thing that might suck is the timing of it which could not be avoided. There are so many holes on offense and defense the rebuild might waste a good portion of his career.
If they traded him I don't know if you ever get back equal value, there are only so many superstar players and you rarely see a one for one in those situations.
A mess of draft picks still has its risks. Three first round picks could easily turn into TJ for Artie Burns, Jarvis Jones and Devon Bush.
