I agree, but Tomlin would never go with a " throw away " year, a " rebuild " year...

Ben hides so many of Tomlins Flaws, I couldn't even imagine a Rudolph year...my God we tied the Lions, and should have lost...

With that Line and that aging D...It could legitimately be a 3 win season ( maybe less ) with Mason as QB... THAT, Should land you a Franchise QB with the 1st pick , but like I said, Tomlin would never allow it...

He still " wants " to be portrayed as a good Coach! We flame out again this year, and have a couple win season next year...No HOF ( I don't think he's even close to being considered anyhow imo ) but that would really hurt him!

If the Steelers take Pickett at #12...I would think they'd have to go OL/ DL with like the next 4 picks ( but we don't have a 4th or a 5th )

It's just one of those years where there is not a lot of teams that need a QB. So many have been taken the past 3 years that it kind of make sense.

Also, we are all assuming that picket is the first QB off the board. Stranger things have happened in the past when it comes to teams evaluating players. A good example is the Browns taking Mayfield with the #1 overall, that was a surprise to a lot.

Is he a sure fire HOFer with only 1 SB championship in 14/15 years and the playoff record recently? I’m not saying he won’t get in because of his winning percentage and the amount of games coached but seems strange it would be a lock with a lack of championship success.

And if this year is showing us anything it’s probably that we have not been further away from a championship in his tenure. The next several years could be very rough hurting his % numbers.

The higher our pick, the less I want to draft a QB in the 1st round. I think that there will be plenty of non-QBs that grade out higher than the best QBs in this class, but that there are potentially 3 or 4 QBs who could be solid value in the second half of the 1st round.

However, a team should not be looking to the draft for a day 1 starter at QB. Those guys are rare, and even a strong QB draft class like last year’s will show that QBs generally should be penciled in as starters no earlier than year 2. Yeah, there are exceptions like Herbert and Mac Jones, but they’re the exception not the rule.

    Cowher
    • 1 x Super Bowl champion (XL)
    • 2x AFC Champion (1995, 2005)
    • 6x AFC Divisional Champion (1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2004, 2005)
    • Regular season: 149–90–1 (.623)
    • Postseason: 12–9 (.571)

    Tomlin
    • 1 x Super Bowl champion (XLIII)
    • 2x AFC Champion (2008, 2010)
    • 7x AFC Divisional Champion (2007, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2020)
    • Regular season: 151–84–2 (.641)
    • Postseason: 8–8 (.500)
As for further away in his tenure, you do not seem to remember how bad the Steelers were under Cower 1998-2000. People wanted Cowher fired and that it was the 2nd coming of the 80’s. That didn’t stop Cowher from getting into the Hall.

By the way, Tony Dungy is also in with 1 super bowl and a Postseason record of 9–10 (.474)

John Madden, 1 super bowl, post season record of 9–7

Steelers will likely be picking between 12-15. If there is a QB still sitting there you almost have to take him.

And why does the QB have to be an instant starter? Chiefs traded a 1st and 3rd rd pick for Mahomes and still sat him for his first year. That turned out pretty good.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. You’re looking for a guy to give you 15-20 years, if you have to forfeit a year to give them the best chance to succeed, so be it.

Chiefs also had a team that was in the playoffs every year before they drafted Him, and didn't need
    1. A better Oline
    2. A better D-line
    3. Possibly 2 Cbs
    4. A new Safety
    5. A new MLB (even if Bush turns it around) we need another.
    6. More Wrs( Possibly)
Also We don't need a Qb that won't be ready till We have 2 pay Him.

Think you are making an argument for why not to select a QB, really has nothing to do with my point of not having to start a QB just because you draft them in the first rd.

It's not that the claim of quarterback being the most important position in sports is wrong. It's very true. But so many people take that and run off a cliff with it. Sure, this team needs another great quarterback to take over for Ben. But it's also a FACT that football is the ultimate T-E-A-M sport. The two "most talented" quarterbacks of the past 15 years, one older (Rodgers) and the other younger (Mahomes), don't get anywhere near a Lombardi without all the many other great players around them the years they won it.

And I say that only to point out that with the unmitigated disaster that so much of the rest of this roster currently is, I don't care who is under center in 2022, this team ain't sniffing a Lombardi without a number of truly great playmakers (ala Harrison, Farrior, Polamalu, Taylor, Hampton, Smith, Bettis, Ward, Miller, Faneca, etc. from the 2000s; and I don't have time to list all the guys from the 1970s) playing together on the same team.

So yes, they need the next great Steelers quarterback. But man, do they ever need a lot of other great players to go alongside him, too.

No QB is top 5 worthy. After that, Carolina, Atlanta, NO and NY Giants are projected ahead of us. Any one of those teams may take a QB

I'm unsure if NO will take a QB in round 1. They just signed Hill to a new contract and wouldn’t be surprised if they bring Winston back.

The Giants are another I’m unsure about, at least in round one. They seem to like Daniel Jones and they may not be ready to move on from him. They might give him a shot under a new coach.

According to the taking heads, Atlanta may continue with Ryan for another couple of years. Their issues don’t seem to be offense.

Carolina is the one that yes, might be looking for a QB. However, as I’ve said…that doesn’t mean Pickett is the one they want.

I see Pickett said screw the Peach Bowl and screw his teammates and school that helped him get to be the multi-millionaire that he's about to be. Eff him.

While I agree as a fan of football I don't like it, but the Game is meaningless, and most likely the team they are facing will have players that also won't play. I would Have done the same if I was Pickett. The only teams in college that all the players play in the bowl games now are
    1. In the College Playoffs
    2. Teams that don't have players projected 2 go very high , or not at all in the Draft.
