I'd assume the theory will be that Ingram is being ruled out due to impending trade and Taco elevated to take the back up role

It is too bad that Ingram wants out. He would be getting more playing time IMO - and you never know who will get hurt.

What I meant above is that Ingram is out due to imminent trade....and I think that is a mistake.

Smh ... why go after the guy if you're not going to play him. Tj, highsmith, Bush, ingram and Heyward rush the qb and drop back six defenders. And maybe, we can get off the field with 3rd and long ... for a change. It would definitely, increase our sacks and maybe create more int's

Ingram is on the injury list with a groin that needs rubbed

Faking him there can cost a draft pick

If they were keeping him injury free because of a trade they could just not dress him

I don't get it, NFL teams this past offseason had little interest in Ingram.

He knew what the deal was when he signed here. We even put in a 3 OLB package for him.

Oh well... I hope we get a high pick for him.

When you are an athlete, and you are playing behind someone you know is more skilled than you, you are accepting of that.

When you are an athlete, and you are playing behind someone you know full well you are better than, it eats you up and drives you crazy.

Melvin Ingram is better that Alex Highsmith. This isn't a knock on Highsmith. It is just fact. Ingram and Watt could tear the league up like Dupree and Watt did last year. I understand the Steelers want to develop Highsmith for the future. But Ingram is a pro bowl caliber player. He wants to be start and be "the guy". A rotation isn't enough for him.

He was playing quite a bit until the Seattle game, Highsmith played 100% of the snaps.

Ingram should be grateful the Steelers gave him a job, he was injured last season and had no sacks, so I don't know why he would think he was going to get more playing time than Highsmith.

I get both sides of it, but
    1. No one was looking at Him, and We gave him a chance. He should be grateful.
    2. We do have 2 develop for later.
    3. It's only 6 games into a 17 game season, and that's not counting the Playoffs if We are So Lucky....So a lot can change. He already got one start, and Finished another...plus the constant rotation.
I just think He'd do Himself a favor By playing the best He can ...When He gets his chances.
Of Course I'm a Steelers fan....So I only want whats best for the team.

BS. You signed, you stay and play or ride the bench. You play better and you will see the field. You let guys run over you and you don't earn a start. This is a what have you done for me lately league.

I agree with you. I have spent a lot of time around athletes (not at a pro level obviously). But its relatively the same at any level.

Ingram came here for two reasons. #1 the Steelers gave him a job, which he was having a tough time finding. #2 Because a competitor as good as Ingram is has faith in himself to beat out a young player like Highsmith. I am certain the Steelers explained to Ingram his role. But then the season started and Ingram was playing a lot due to injury. He was not just playing, he was playing at a high level.

This is a guy who has never been a backup to anybody in his entire life since he was 6 years old. It is HARD. It is a lot harder than people think it is to take a backseat, especially when you believe you can help your team win better than the guy in front of you. I believe that is whats going on here.

I am not saying it is right. I am just pointing out what I believe is playing a factor in Ingram's mind.

My response to 6 explains my point. I agree with everything you just wrote. I am just trying to shed light on what it is like to be in Ingram's position.

Everyone, keep saying that no one was looking at him. That's not true. He chose the steelers. Tomlin, probably, used that players coach speech on him and thought that he would be used because of his veteran leadership and pro bowlers pedigree status. The guy is a proven talent and we got lucky that he chose us. Now, use him and use him correctly.

If this is FACT, why haven't the coaches been starting or playing Ingram more? I don't know as much about him as you do so just wondering about another SMH coaching decision and what your take is on it.

Was Taco the guy who dragged a huge picture of his mother or sister or daughter or mechanic/ whomever up to the stage and was throwing F bombs left and right with Dion Sanders on national tv? Not sure if anyone remembers that quality draft moment.
