This makes no sense. Dotson was literally the only highlight on the offensive line last year.

Even if they don't give a crap about the team you would think they would want to be in the best possible shape for their career and the dollars they can bring in the longer they play. IMO they should be working their ass off 12 months a year. I understand the young mind thinks differently but the first time I saw that paycheck with all them numbers I'd work my ass off.

Maybe Dotson is not up to snuff in Tomlin's eyes.

Maybe its tough love, maybe its legit.

Anyway I like to see Tomlin being more hard on guys.

Do some of you people even read? He missed two weeks of practice. He came back for one practice and played with the second team. He said it, the coach said it. But even after that, it becomes some huge conspiracy theory that proves Tomlin sucks.

    SMFH.

It's always strange to see who he gives slack to and who he busts on. Dotson as a rookie played much better than Fieler did at LG and yet as soon as Fieler is healthy he is inserted back into the line up. So how do you say to Dotson this year that he hasn't earned 1st team reps when he earned them last season and still wasn't named the starter.

This is why I'm an equal opportunity A-hole. It cuts down on the amount of time tailoring it to the audience. Every one gets the same amount.

Okorafor, who sucked last year, practiced for the first time in camp with the starters. Tomlin has a hard on for Dotson, was probably a Colbert pick.

I have a grouchy old man who works near me at work whose job is dangling by a thread because he thinks if he is grouchy enough they will move him to another spot. One day he tried to tell me I was targeting him and being a jerk. I looked at him and said what makes you think you're special I'm a jerk to everyone on walked away.

I'm curious about the rest of the discussion before the Tomlin quote. I wonder if he had been getting a lot of questions about Dotson running with the 2nd team and got fed up, so the quote might reflect some frustration with the reporters rather than the player. Plenty of coaches do that. Hell, I've been the reporter who asked that one question too many on the same subject.

I'm not saying that is definitely what happened with the quote about Dotson. I'm just raising it as a possibility based on my reporting experience.

I'm with you Dotson to me was good last season. I'll let his play on the field dictate what I say about him going forward.

Depends on what you mean by "working their ass off." The body needs time to heal, time to rest, time to recuperate. I could be wrong, but I don't believe these professional athletes take the offseason off, drink beer, and imprint their butts in their couches. And there's a big difference in the training they do in and out of the season. In the offseason, you can strength train and tear your body down and build it back up. You can't do that during the season.

Your point about offseason training is well made. I think it’s plausible that Dotson was given instructions by the strength and conditioning dept that he didn’t fully follow. Tomlin said he was a second year guy that hasn’t worked, I heard the quote verbatim and it’s hard to pin down from his tone exactly what he meant by that. Perhaps they were looking for him to slim down a little and improve his mobility and burst for this new zone blocking scheme or something along those lines. Doubt we will ever know.

We know he had a minor injury but it also sounds like he is in the doghouse for something. There is too much smoke in relation to Dotson for there not to be at least a small fire.

I will only start to worry if he makes stupid tweets and then blames others for his own behavior.

From how Dotson played last year as a rookie I have confidence he will be the starter, if he isn't the starter then wow we suddenly have great depth at left guard.
