Still early but it definitely seems like McFarland has jumped both Snell and Samuels.

I think the new style is a bad fit for Mason ..Coach T has been quoted about pushing the ball down the field more and it seems Mason is gun shy and when he does he has been throwing ducks ...I don't think he likes pistol and boot or mobile QB stuff.. As I stated it is clear if you read the Team sessions that Matt wants to run some of that and Dobbs is the guy making the throws on the run and running into the endzone.. Haskins is playing as the best pocket QB making quicker reads and better throws on long and short passes, he is yet to throw a Int I read .. If he continues that in the games and Mason stays his course it would make no sense to keep Mason..

My main point is Mason is the clear #2 or he has no value IMO ..As statsd I have Dobbs as a virtual lock to make the Team because of the play calls i've been reading from the reports..

Will the Team cut the Arm strength of Haskins ? Will the Team handcuff the new OC and give him no mobile QB'S? 1 more point is the best way to help the OL protect the QB is by moving the pocket , so with all the new parts on that unit I am sure the OC wants to have that option..

I read one bullet in that thread where Haskins missed a short throw on the run. Frankly, that's not his strength, either and we know Ben is past that part of his career.

Not defending Rudolph, but Canada had better adapt to the talent he has.

Yep I figured he would as he has the open field ability, he has the tools to break off the big plays .. He was 1 block or 1 read or 1 cut in the right direction from going house last season when he got chances.. I think the new OC is smarter and will have better play calling and design plus Mcfarland a year smarter and wiser I expect him to have a very good season..

yes he was saying just a couple days ago how he tried to make too much out of his limited opportunities last year. He realizes now every carry doesn't have to be a TD.

What Mobility? You think he is going to turn Ben into a mobile QB this year?

Last year he just stood straight up in the shotgun formation and never moved before throwing the ball in under 2 seconds. I don't see the Steelers having a moving pocket with Ben as the starting QB.

The starters haven't practiced yet, and Banner was in street clothes for Friday Night Lights.

My Friend...You also know moving the pocket helps the Qb, but also helps the D. They have less field they have 2 cover. That's why most Qbs once they learn 2 read the field are not asked 2 do it.

I don't see him using Ben in that regard, however I do see him using Dobbs as the change of pace QB.. The GL is a problem and has been with Ben, the short yardage is a problem and has been with Ben, Teams that stack the box and run blitz slash/meet at a point pass rush has been a problem..So I see the new OC using his bu QB to run totally different packages that Ben could not and can not..

A game plan with just 5 or 10 percent mobile QB stuff could make this Offense much more dangerous and way less predictable..As I have stated and know from personal experience the moe you have to prepare for the more chances of making a mistake or miscommunication may occur this equals Big plays that as a result of between 2 evenly matched Teams often determines the winner..

I agree to a point, but that's where coaching comes in and WR'S knowing when to break a route and the spot they should head to .. If no Defender is a match for the QB on that edge just out run them get 10 and step out of bounce just a different element you have to use playing half the field..My favorite was the backside TE this gives him time to block and come across the QB'S face in spots to bust most Zones wide open..

So, your plan is to have Ben come off the field for those 5 to 10 percent mobile plays?

Back in my days it was called the triple-option and it was a very effective short yardage offense; as long as you had a mobile QB that could take a pounding. (#10 Slash)

Yes that's my plan..Conert on 3rd. and short and give him more chances..Confuse the DC'S and the Defenders and not let them know they can run the same thing the entire game...IMO it is the best plan of Attack from a Team stand point help the OL help the RB help the QB help the OC...If this means Ben misses a few snaps then so be it...

Even if Dobbs made the 53, he won't be active on gameday.

Now days it's zone read and boot action extended plays..It would be nice to see the number of TD'S from Mahomes,Wilson and those cats on extended plays ...It's really not the same concept as it used to be ,it's more the threat of the run taking away a coverage defender so the QB can make those impact pass plays..Run and get me 10 is really what you hope don't happen , but will take if nothing is there..

I taking odds on that as well..The new OC calling way to many mobile QB plays not to have a mobile QB active.. No need to waste precious practice time , he intends to use it ,I have no doubt about that..

If Dobbs was in the game the opposing D would know that only 2 possible things would happen. Either he would take off and run or throw a shovel pass. There is no way the Steelers coaches would trust him to throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage.

Hate to say it but The Raven's are team to beat in this division.
Plus they have the best coach in division.

They are going to bring him along slowly. They need him for 17 games. Not preseason. I suspect even once the season starts his snaps will be limited. Ditto Bush.

Funny the exact play before that was Mason Vs Sutton with the end result being a TD for the offense.

What does Pierre need to do to take over at the #2 CB position?

First bad Play by Haskins thus far. Other than that, he has had himself a good Training Camp thus far. I do hope that continues.

Speaking of good Training Camps, how about James Pierre?!?! Quite the surge from him and I am beginning to understand why Tomlin and Butler placed him over Layne in that dreaded Wild Card game. Him training with Minkah this off season has definitley payed off thus far. Cannot wait to see him in action..... which is not too far off now!!!

Pre season or not, football is back baby!!! :herewego:

Ball out the entire pre season and outplay Cameron Sutton. That said, Sutton is no slouch and has had a quality Camp himself. If anything, I would rather have both Sutton and Pierre on the field at the same time should Pierre do so by the final Pre Season game.

He has been superb thus far. Good thing he worked out some with Minkah. What better way to improve one's skills than by studying from the games best safety?!
