PFR is doing the hard work going through the film to record sack counts from the merger forward until they were officially recorded in 1982. We now have more accurate numbers on the Steel Curtain legends.

The best part about this is it looks like Michael Strahan's gifted sack record was beaten.

That's hilarious, what a douchey flop by Favre to give him the record. I also remember reading on a football card as a kid that Bengals' DE Coy Bacon had 26 in 1976, a number that has been corrected to 21.5. Still awesome, but an indication of how unreliable team stats can be.

Pretty good numbers since they didn't pass as much as they do nowadays I bet.

I had no idea Keith Willis was that high on the list for Steeler career totals, including 14 in '83 and 12 in '86. I remember him playing along with the "other Keith"..Keith Gary but I was in middle school and stats weren't discussed as they are now.

Very cool research!! NFL then was more run. They changed rules to make the pass happen more. Majority of NFL fans (especially the young) love them high shootouts with all those long bombs.

As I said many times on here, I was raised on Steeler defense. I'll take those low scoring, grind it out slugfest games any day. Sadly with the rule changes and protection of players (which I sure the hell understand) those days are long gone.:( Used to love watching the boy's from the 70's do everything in their power to slam a QB down. Kenny Stabler had a great comment about it but I'll never remember it.

Sack numbers are probably one of the most overrated stats in the NFL.

Woodley was impressive until he got a new contract , got fat , lazy , and uninspired.

Injured & never overcame it. Other than that he was a great Steeler not just a good one like some other Steeler lbs.

At least I saw the yellow flag come out, although that is little consolation for Bradshaw.

I think played his best half season of football after getting the contract and before pulling his hamstring. He was never the same. I don’t know how much was complacency with the contract dollars affecting his rehab effort, and how much was just the injury.

I think fat , and Happy is why he never overcame his Injury. Just My opinion.
We've seen Guys comeback from way , way , way worse Injuries.
    Because they were still hungry.
In saying all this . I still think he was Great.
I just think he could have been greater. LoL.

Sorry. He was fat, and Happy. He couldn't overcome a hamstring injury??? For the rest of the time on this team, and his next?
I not saying he wasn't Great.
I'm saying after the SB win, the Big Contract....He got Happy with life .
In Boxing there's a saying ....It's Hard 2 Get Out of Bed in the Morning 2 Go for Your Run when You're Sleeping with Silk Sheets.

Woodley his 1st 4 years was excellent, him and Harrison were a good 1-2 punch as any.

Then it started to tail off pretty fast

Joe Greene was the man super impressive. I don't think a lot of people realize the probably played with 60-65% strength in his one arm due an injury and he played like that from about the mid 70's until he retired.
