I guess we'll find out. Just saying I would have prioritized OL over RB/TE. Could have had two day 1 starters on the OL and Sermon in the 3rd.

Folks if you think this a championship team, you must be smoking to much weed, or a bigger homer than I am.
This will be a competitive team that is going to grow together and who knows barring injuries may make a run
for a playoff spot. Then next year we will have added experience under their belts and make a legitimate shot for Sam Howell.
With proper player evaluation and tweaks we will be able to compete with anybody.

many of these guys have played at one time or another. they are not just guys that never stepped on the field. we have done this same type of progression before this. this isn't something new for the steelers. feiler, AV, foster, banner, finney have all come from these ranks.

Much easier to integrate those developmental guys in to an established line alongside seasoned veterans. Putting 4-5 new guys in together is a different story. Maybe it works out, but the odds are that it doesn’t, at least not initially. You might get away with it if you have a mobile QB that can extend plays (eg if Ben was 30 again), but not when he is 38 with arthritic knees.

If they are going to have a successful offence they’ll have to develop a deep passing game to back defences off and stop them loading the box, and to do that the line will have to hold up because Ben can’t escape pressure any more.

Bringing Ben back to play behind this experimental line makes little sense to me. I really hope it works out but I’m not optimistic. There are just too many factors pointing to why it won’t work.

In a normal year you might be right, but the schedule difficulty is backloaded and this team has perfected the late season fade. I think this is Tomlin/Ben's first losing record. Don't see how it isn't unless they are injury free and several other teams lose their QBs.

So you're saying we just need to hit on 5-6 lottery tickets all at the same time...sounds like a plan.

As Maddog mentioned, the Steelers seemed to like Trey Sermon's game. I for one also liked Michael Carter out of UNC. Sermon went right after the Steelers picked Green and Carter went at the top of the 4th. I believe Faulkner was at UNC's pro day, but I'd have to go back to confirm.

As I said in that earlier post, if Harris had been gone by 24, I think OT would have been a great pick but with KC's belief it was a deep draft for Ts, I'd be curious how they went.

I love the Harris pick, I think he's gonna be a beast. But its very far and few between that you get a chance at a very good tackle in the back 1/3 of the first round. And solidifying the line helps both the pass and running game. Really it is just a matter of how they wanted to go about fixing the run game. They got the workhorse back that Tomlin covets. And they went RB in rnd 1 because they thought they already made some improvements to the o-line in changing the position coach and OC and knowing they got Banner back. Plus AV was in limbo. He had already visited the Ravens but left unsigned.

The draft fell right into their laps with Harris still being available. If he was gone, they'd probably have gone Sermon or Carter and it'd be more a RBBC type scenario with Snell being the other guy. Less so with Sermon maybe, but definitely with Carter. I don't know how they viewed Javonte Williams or Travis Etienne for 1(24) consideration but I would have thought they'd have others rated higher. But that's a guess.

Count me as a believer in the line. Rather, count me as one that will believe they will gel together in due time. Not going to be an easy transition even with the return of Training Camp along with Pre Season.

I would rather have the #1 RB, and #2 TE over like the 10th best OL guy in Eichenberg. I think they liked Green at center because he might be more athletic than some of the other centers that was in the draft.

Pittsburgh has always liked athletic, mobile centers rather that power lifting road graders. Back in the day it was because Noll loved the trap blocking scheme. Now, they like their lineman to be able to pull.

Had it been me, I might have taken a an OT instead of Freiermuth, but I don't really feel that strongly about it. They needed a TE seeing as how Ebron has granite hands.

Green is strong, and has a background in wrestling, I think he will do just fine at center.

Webbie was also incredibly powerful. But, he could move, too. If this guy is mobile as well, he could be a real find.

I LOVED Darrisaw, Mocked in most drafts to go top 15...He fell and was taken at 23 ( One pick before us ) I was going nuts...

In your opinion, Do you still think Harris was the pick if Darrisaw was there? I honestly see multiple pro bowl potential from him

Given the relative strengths of their rosters, I think it's very possible that Sermon outperforms Harris in 2021. This board will combust if that happens.

If the D is leaky, the O could look a lot like last year's.

The 49ers like to use running back by committee, so I doubt Sermon outperforms Harris.

I’ll go a step further, he won’t outperform Harris.

Out of the 2nd tier guys, I would have taken Rhamondre Stevenson over Sermon.

To be a feature back or a 4th and 1 short yardage guy?

He offers a lot more than short yardage work. If anything, he’d be a 1st and 2nd down back but I think he can stay on the field for all 3 downs, has better hands than people realize, just wasn’t asked a lot of him at Oklahoma. A guy that size with his agility and quick feet, I think he will be a successful back in this league. I think he has a better chance seizing the feature roll with NE than Sermon does in San Fran where he has Mostert ahead of him there.
