I would agree with this, Pat probaly won't be up huge numbers , especially with Ebron in the picture, but we all know Ebron will probably be good as gone and not re-signed next season, and Pat will more than likely be the TE1 going forward.

I think people will really like Pat. Penn State is my college team, so I watched Jesse James, Mike Gesicki, and even Kyle Brady back the 90's

Pat may be the most impressive Penn State TE I have watched play in Happy Valley, and he probably be the #1 TE taken if not for Kyle Pitts being a monster, and being the highest a TE even was taken in an NFL draft.

Anything Friermuth catches will be a bonus if his blocking helps improve the running game. If Ebron has more snaps on running plays than Friermuth, I will be disappointed. I realize offensive sets are used to disguise plays, so Ebron may be on the field in a passing situation, while a running play is the call, so that may skew the numbers somewhat, and vice versa. If Friermuth gets 500 snaps in the offense, that will be a plus for the Steelers.

The last thing they need to be doing is telegraphing run or pass based on which tight end is in the game. They need to be throwing the ball with Freiermuth in the game. The value there is he can actually block and catch, not just one or the other.

He has apparently really impressed in camp... and I know that happens a lot but I've heard resounding excitement.

This. But, will finesse Ebron do the dirty work when they run?

I'm excited to see Freiermuth in action.

I'd love to see a TE in the mold of Antonio Gates that can both catch on the run or, plant and use his big frame to post up, basketball style and block out defenders using his height to grab high throws. I remember Gates doing that to us, and he could be deflating. I wonder how much, if any, basketball Freiermuth played. Gates proved those skills were adaptable to football. Heath Miller was pretty good at it, too. That aside, I would not be surprised to see Freiermuth get more playing time as the season progresses especially if his blocking allows them to run the ball effectively.

Unless Gentry takes a big step forward, Ebron, Muth and James would be better than Ebron, Muth and Gentry/Rader.

Ebron is a huge liability with run blocking and he has a high drop percentage.

Would be nice to see Freiermuth as the #1 and put Ebron as a WR for match-up problems.

So here's to hoping Freiermuth learns quick

Pat is going to be the best TE we have had since Miller, write it down take it the bank.

I may be a PSU homer, but Pat is the real deal.

Yeah, I'd feel more confident with JJ as our 3rd TE than what we currently have.

He wouldn't be the 3rd TE in 2021, though.

TE is one of the toughest college to pro transitions, if they had brought in James, I would have assumed it was because they didn't think Freiermuth was ready.

It's a good sign they didn't sign him in that regard.

Why couldn’t it just be a good depth signing?

He’s probably the number 3 in Chicago.
