Not surprised at all, they picked up Minkah's option at over 10 million, maybe they can sign Edmunds to an extension at a lower salary.

When you don't produce, even at a lower cost, Tomlin won't keep you around for more than 5 years.

About the middle of the last game, we would have been down to 7 man football.

What round do you think Edmunds should have been drafted in? He could not have been considered the BPA at that point. Wish I knew who made the decision to draft him there.

Seems like a straight cap move to me, non-issue. They don't have cap space available and the 5th year would become guaranteed 100%. They either did it for cap reasons or think they can re-sign him for a lower price than the 5th year option..... but I don't really know much about NFL contract stuff, and really doesn't matter much to me as a fan..... he's here in 2021 so I wish my fellow Hokie the best!!!

He had a second to third rd grade on him but he had a very high SPARQ score IIRC and that carries a lot of weight with Tomlin. They were picking at 28 that year, though, almost into the second rd by that point.

It is a cap issue for sure. His fifth year option number is $6.75m. If he was a free agent looking for a one year deal he wouldn’t get that on the open market. The only risk in declining his option is if he plays at All Pro level in 2021, which is unlikely. Even if that happens and he leaves you get a comp pick back.

They will probably let him test the market next year and see if they want to match what he is offered. I don’t hate keeping him if the money is right. They don’t have anything developing behind him and the depth right across that secondary is already really thin.

As they should have. If he extends for reasonable money that's fine but he's not special.

He can join Dupree after this year even if he plays well this season. Both will be one year wonders then. What has he done in his tenure here: absolutely nothing! Waste of a 1st rounder!

Dupree was a better player his first three years than Edmunds has been so far. People also need to stop with the one-year wonder stuff with Dupree. He was outstanding the last two seasons.

That is my hope as well. People need to realize that Top Flight Safety tandems do not grow on trees. For that matter, even assembling them is no small task the same.

Should he be gone in 2022...... oh dear god.

I hear you , but one not 2 long ago didn't really miss a beat . We went Troy P , and Cris Hope ...2 ...Troy P, and Ryan Clark.
If not for Clark's injury, and traits that wouldn't allow him 2 play in Denver...We never missed a beat.

Clark had experience in general coming to the Steelers though. I seriously doubt that Kevin Colbert is going to try that idea again with Minkah. If anything and, I REALLY hate to say this, the Steelers might have to go in the draft for a Safety again as I do not see how Norwood or Brooks are the answers. Players like Daxton Hill and Isaiah Pola Mao are on the list but that is such a Grey area in terms of projections because I seriously doubt the Steelers will want to select a Safety in Round One. Round two is more likely but for the aforementioned three, nothing is set in stone.
