Lots of rumors the Steelers really like Assante Samuel, who currently sits at #67 on Gil Brandt's top 100 prospect list. That would be directly in line with recent Steeler DB reaches at the draft.

    2016: Artie Burns (99th on Gil's list)
    2018: Terrell Edmunds (87th on Gil's list)

I could totally see a gut punch like this coming out of left field this year with all the CB losses this offseason.

    Weaknesses
    • Doesn't get eyes on quarterback often enough for coverage clues.
    • Opens hips early, allowing route runner the advantage.
    • Brief stall to drive from the top of his drop.
    • Too grabby and undisciplined with back to the ball.
    • History of pass interference penalties, with many of them unnecessary.
    • Average lateral burst in transitions and long speed deep.
    • Needs to get off receiver's run block sooner.
    • Inconsistent running feet through the tackle.

I think he is better than #67 .. Artie should have been 300 I stated that before the draft I hated his tape. I like the Samuel tape I would have no problem with the pick if Etienne and Fields are gone .. If all 3 are still on the board I would like a trade back ... I do not love the OL that will probably be there at #24 ...

In the 2nd great, not in the 1st imo...How is everyone feeling / what are your expectations / predictions now with the Layne incident...

Do you think he's gone/ want him gone/ what do you think the Steelers want/ Does this move the CB up the draft priority / Or did you think it was already a priority............OR....

Same ole same ole Steeler game plan....Take the BPA approach....

    Whata y'all think?

Unfortunately, Asante Samuel Jr. is likely in play at 24 now due to Justin Layne's selfish decision. Jr. lines up with how the Steelers have been selecting their players dating back to T.J. Watt. If not him, Eric Stokes is the other option available then although I would rather have Creed Humphrey at that point.

Shaun Wade from Ohio State in the third round would be excellent value in my opinion. Keep in mind everyone he was battling a turf toe all season long; a major detriment for any Defensive Back. Should he return to his 2019 form in the NFL, that would be quite the steal.

Are there cures for turf toe now? I realize Mahommes had one, but they probably gave him a shot for the Super Bowl, but how much was his performance affected? For a cornerback, I would be cautious about turf toe. Turf toe ended Jack Lambert's career.

There are nowadays in comparison to when Jack Lambert played. Regarding Mahomes, bit more than one would expect. Yes, Mahomes could still make those awe inspiring throws but not with the same level of accuracy or touch as before.. he was using more of his upper body than his lower body to do so.

However but, the fact of the matter is that playing through one in a position that requires extreme lateral, explosive and agile movements are going to aggravate such an injury. I imagine that Wade will be fine come Training Camp.

Layne was possibly going to be a camp cut. Has shown nothing. I repeat nothing!

Corner in the 1st :lolol: :roflmao:

Lets not forget Ol Popcorn wanted Artie Burns. He lived up to his last name.

Panic because we lost a scrub.

I can see them drafting one later.

I saw a while back that the Steelers have shown a lot of interest in Samuel so I read up on all the scouting reports etc. First round feels like a bit of a reach, I would imagine that they may be looking at him for their second pick or even the third if he falls that far. They have a huge hole at slot corner with Hilton gone and Sutton moving outside. Samuel is ideal for that job by all accounts.

If I had to guess I think they may take Harris or Etienne at 24, then one of Dickerson or Samuel at 55, all depending on who is available of course.

That said they are always liable to surprise us.

Yeah, I don’t get it. If they take a CB in the first, it has nothing to do with losing Layne. Lose a guy that got passed on the depth chart by an UDFA an they need to draft a 1st rd CB to replace him

I don't think the Justin Layne thing influences their decision in any way. I'm not even sure he makes the cut.

I could see the Steelers going CB first. If both, or even all three, of the brand name running backs are off the board, then I think they go corner. But if Etienne or Harris is there I think the Steelers will have a hard time passing on those guys.

Hell no, I would rather them reach and draft Javonte Williams if Etienne, and Harris are gone.

I beg to differ on a need for a Cornerback. While I do not believe the board will shape up for us to draft one at that point, Pittsburgh has to address that position much sooner than others realize. How much longer is Joe Haden going to maintain a high level of performance?! That alone is fair to question.

After Sutton and Haden, the rest sadly are unknowns. Trusting Pierre after merely logging less than 40 snaps is quite the leap of faith in my opinion. Regarding Williams, he has been oft injured since 2019. Who is to say that injury bug still has not gone away?!

For me personally, if not Round One, definitley consider the option of a Corner in Round Three again. The position itself will still be deep and talented by then for an option.

    Sure do!!

Leave nothing to chance going into this draft. How the board shapes up will be key. Hopefully though, the board breaks for Pittsburgh to get the guy they need.

Agree with all this ,but Sutton being a known.
You know Sutton will be capable of holding down the 1, or 2 CB position ???
From what I've seen I'm not sure of that.

Dude you can go 2 any players draft profile and find weakness.
Example Let's use L Bell (You can look this up) Doesn't have good hand out of the Backfield, problems with fumbles.

I just hope it takes us a good 7 mins to draft a player, instead of the usual 10 seconds ..

Unless they are working a trade then there is no reason to take the full allotment of time. The fact that the Steelers make their picks quickly just shows they are confident in their board.

Why do you want them fumbling about questioning who to take, that should already be determined, thats why you scout players all year and spend hundreds of hours making a board. Trust your board, don’t be the Browns.

I believe he is. Remember Sutton played some in 2019 also. For me, Sutton is ready. It is everyone else behind him that give me pause.

Doesnt hurt to questiion picks, or try to make a trade.. they have rushed so many times only to find the pick they was so confident in was trash.. other teams have to be confident in their picks also. I dont seeing them pick within 10 seconds..
