But....but he knows the system! So tired of that crap. Steelers offense is nothing special that you need someone with experience in it.

Everything I read about AV was that he was going to go sign for mega-bucks somewhere else.

Keeping AV would be one step closer to drafting that RB in the 1st round.

just giving his numbers from last year. the last two years much of the pressure is coming up the middle. our qbs couldn't step up into the pocket very well because of it which in turn makes the edges look worse if the qb is standing at the back of the arc. i just read that AV stands be worth about 15 mil. on the open market. with this cap i'm not sure that is feasible. he never has given up a ton of sacks. his run blocking in the scheme we used suffered from his height. so does his ability with smaller quicker edge rushers. we have had worse over the years thats for sure.

I’m not in any way qualified to break down OLine play but I definitely did notice that pressure up the middle with the interior getting pushed back on top of Ben.

Al seemed to be getting bull rushed a lot, by the eye test he looked awful but the stats on PFF / PFR show that he did well in pass protection so I don’t know.

I dont think they can afford him in any case, presumably these talks are a bit of a courtesy as much as anything else. If he wants to play on I could see him end up at the Chiefs or Chargers on a short term deal, maybe two years, veteran LT’s make a lot of money and the Sterlers just do t have it right now. Another comp pick for the Steelers.

pitt and georgia have centers in this draft. what colbert said makes sense too. as i keep harkening back to landon young and dan moore jr as guys i would be looking at. eichenburg is a guy i wouldn't mind either. seems like we are looking at 6-6 guys for the 3rd round. ealy, radunz so far. eichenburg would be in that range too. is AV worse then moving chuks to the left side?

i could see a 2nd - 3rd round center then tackle. could humphrey or dickenson or myers slip to the 2nd or 3rd? sure. i think it's a wait and see for them. they will get one of each but not pass up better prospects to zero in on any one guy. those two 4th round picks are big i feel. that may be the sweet spot they are looking at. still a lot of talent at several spots then.

i'd agree in most years but as we are seeing teams are being very cautious with spending money. we are seeing a lot of guys cut loose too that normally wouldn't be. that's trouble for guys wanting bigger paydays. i think a lot of them are going to take smaller 1 year deals until it opens back up next year just to stay current.

Agreed, I don’t think he is getting $15m but I could see a team like the Chargers giving him up to $10m. Steelers cannot afford that this year unfortunately

no we made our decisions before which left us in this pickle and are still making that mistake of pushing it forward. wait until down the road and the dead money hits happen with those players gone. we saw this a few years ago when cowhers players were slowly being weeded out. the dead money years were big for a couple of years and we counted on young players to man the ranks. we had some good ones but couldn't keep many of them. we also used UDFAs on the O-Line which now want paid or aged to retirement. Feiler, AV, foster, finney. we relied on watt, bud, juju, washington, conner, and several first contract guys to fill the ranks to make up the difference. you cut your strength somewhere to make up for high prices somewhere else.

even if we picked two linemen in the 4th round, its a big step up from who we have been starting for years in UDFAs in 3 of 5 spots.

True Ask but even with the Banner signing he is coming off an injury and having AV on the cheap for a year as insurance wouldn't hurt. DeCastro and Finney are the only vets on the line as of now. And their was chatter about releasing DeCastro. Will Finney be the starting center? At this point I would think so.

As far as drafting I hope they grab Etienne in the 1st then grab a tackle in the 2nd. After that a center/guard needs to be somewhere as well as an OLB, ILB.

I am going to let Colbert handle this. I would hope he has a plan.

he does, draft this year and next and then retire after he makes next years picks, which is really a head scratcher. wouldn't the new GM want to make his picks?

If he wasn't working on a year to year basis I would think that. But doubt he has long term plans.
