Saw this in another thread and it got me wondering. I think we can all agree in the SB era Ben and Terry were are two best QB's the Steelers have had. Forget all the stats BS, they played in different decades so we could spend all day arguing who was better. My question is who would #3 be??????????

I'm really not sure on this. O'Donnell, Brister, Malone, Stewart, Maddox????????

I think 2 of above names have been to a SB. Tommy Maddox will always have a place in my heart for that AMAZING comeback against the Browns in a Playoff game and he does have a Super Bowl ring. O'Donnell actually led us to a Super Bowl.

I was not a huge fan of Kordella but I think some will say he was our third best?????

    What say you?

Throw out the choke in the SB and it has to be "He who's name shall not be mentioned".

That's a tough call, but I'd probably go with O'Donnell, simply because the Steelers got to the SB with him. It still burns me that he said in an interview the week before that Super Bowl that he was not going to leave Pittsburgh, then after the Super Bowl he left for the Jets anyway.

Obviously Bradshaw and Roethlisberger are top of the list for Super Bowls.

Neil O'Donnell: I will place O'Donnell third due to getting to a Super Bowl. That year he played his heart out and because of his passing and smart decisions with the ball he basically carried the team to SB XXX. During his time as a starter in the NFL he was considered to be the most accurate passer in the league. I do believe had he stayed a Steeler, he would have kept us prominent and possibly gone back to another Super Bowl. His legacy was tarnished, not just by the INTs in the Super Bowl, but because he left the season immediately following that game.

Kordell was an exciting player to watch as long as we were winning, but his passing skills were not the best. Defenses dared him to throw the ball because they were not afraid of his accuracy. However, they needed to shut down the run game to do so, which was a tall order due to having Bettis in the backfield.

Tommy Maddox: Now for the short few years he was our starter, Maddox is the QB that turned us into a passing team. Some don't realize, but Maddox's tenure as our starter set the Steeler record for most yards in a game. I read a while back he had the most 300 yard games as a Steeler until Ben came along (I am still looking for this stat, so please correct me on this if anyone has it.) I still may place Maddox above Kordell for the impact he had on the Steelers offense.

Ironically, with Mason Rudolph's last game against the Browns, he overtook Batch at the 20th spot on the Steelers all time passing leaders.

It still could be Mason one day, not holding my breath, but as of now, #3 N O'Donnell. Curious of how many teams have, unlike us, clear cut 3 top QBs in the SB era. Maybe 49ers and a few others?

NOD gets the nod. Ben has had far worse performances. It's a shame that NOD chose to look human on the biggest stage. 2 poor decisions out of many changed history, and his legacy. He was a very good qb.

    NOD

    Kordell

    Maddox

I would rate them in that order. I would put Mike Tomczak a very close 4th. Very solid backup and had a decent 96 season as the starter.

I would put Bubby Brister 5th.

Agreed. I've never understood the absolute hatred of him. He carried that team to the SB. He had a bad game at the worst possible time.

As for leaving right afterwards, given the fanbase response to the SB, I honestly can't blame him.

Someone that comes after Ben. That's not on the team yet. Please ... because, those other guys shouldn't even be considered. Have any of our drafts from the university of Maryland ever worked out?

The one thing that has always bugged me about that SB was everyone wanted to hang O'Donnell afterward. No wonder he left. But, the play before he threw the second, pick, he hit Andre Hastings right in the hands for a first down and he dropped it. That's the inherent flaw in blaming one player or one play for a loss.

Tee Martin because in the 5th round, someone else was still available.
