In times like these, it would be refreshing if the teams management would drive this bus instead of letting others do it. Take the reins and grow a spine. I don't think that is their MO though. JMO>

Whats really frustrating is that this is the year where a replacement veteran could be had through the trade. I think Darnold could be a damn good QB in this league and after the Wentz trade, I don't think it will cost a ton to get him. But with Ben in limbo, the Steelers can't pull that trigger. I want to believe that the Steelers are always contenders, but I just think the salary cap is going to cost us too many weapons going into next year to be a contender, so why not rebuild now. Problem is, if Ben sticks around for a year, we're going to be stuck with Rudolph or drafting a total unknown.

Calm down people. I'm sure they're working out the details regardless of which way they're going.

The longer there is no decision the better chance we have of not hearing about Ben's cap numbers in the 2022, 2023,2024... season!

I hope the Steelers hold off on any trades until after the draft. Because of the Cap going down roughly 20 million this year there are going to be some big name hitting the free agent market in March. You will then see some quality veterans signing for the league minimum just to get on a team for 2021. It also sounds like the Franchise Tag will be something that most teams will choose not to use this year.

It's in Ben's best interest to drag out a decision until the front office has no options but to resign him.

We’ll have an answer by March 17th, or maybe its the 15th but that’s when Bens 15 million roster bonus is due.

It occurred to me that signing Darnold could force Ben into making a decision sooner than he wants. By bringing more direct competition than Rudolph in for the starting job, Ben might decide it's in his best interests to work his ass off or risk losing the starting job. Small chance of that happening, but you never know.

Guess he got called out on the whole I don’t care about the money thing.
Take league minimum and ask Steelers to make huge donation to a local charity.

    Instant hero.

My green ink font kinda ran dry.

No way they do both...If they bring in Darnold, Ben is GONE! They'll be no competition... They're not gonna use draft capital AND pay Ben....

Other than fan impatience, there really isn’t reason to make a decision before March 10 or whenever the league yr starts. They might wait to know the final cap number. They might wait in consideration to give Ben some time to figure out what he wants to do. I’m sure the team has worked out the contingencies. If Ben retire, we do this. If Ben doesn’t, we do that. So there’s still time.

FAs aren’t gonna sign with current teams this close to free agency. Why not wait and see? So, they don’t neeD to decide yet. And if you ever worked in Corporate America: there is no decision before its time.

BUT WE WANT TO KNOW NOW!!! WE ARE FANS! THEY OWE US!!

I don't think they realize how passionate we are about this. Someone write a letter. Post it on the instabook or facegram or chirper. I really think that if they were made aware that we really want to know and that we're really nice people, that they would be more transparent and expeditious with their decision.

Hopefully a decision is made before the roster bonus is due:

The $12.5 million is the remaining proration from the $37.5 million signing bonus Roethlisberger received in the 2019 extension. ... The cap relief for the Steelers is the same if Roethlisberger retires or is released before his roster bonus becomes a payment obligation on March 19.

I don't feel or want the Steelers to go after Durnold.

I don't know why, but I have an image in my head of Ben, in a raincoat and holding a boombox above his head out in front of Heinz field........?
