IF the Jets select a QB, and IF Ben retires/is cut...Would you trade the 24th pick for Darnold?

    No.

Doubly so given the fact that, even with Darnold, how is the board going to look at that point?! Way too many assumptions to be made regarding that alone as it stands.

No. I would give Rudolph a chance.

No way, he’s not worth a 1st rd pick. Might give up a 3rd.

Sam Darnold is hurt often, sometimes your best ability is you availability (sorrry stole that from Tomlin)

Hard to keep your season afloat when a starting QB misses 2-4 games all the time.

When Ben hangs it up it will be hard to find a QB who plays through so much.

Look at Andrew Luck look at Sam Bradford, they weren't garbage but they were hurt all time. Derails the career quick.

I am all for giving Mason Rudolph a shot before we start trading for QBs. I am not sure if he is the answer or not. But I have seen enough good out of him to think he has earned an opportunity.

I think Darnold would make a solid NFL backup. He's not 24th pick-worthy.

Idk...He had no weapons on the Jets AND Gase...I remember when he tore up my Nittany Lions in College...He and JuJu...I think he had 500 yards in a bowl game, against what was, a good Defense...

He's a big kid with a strong arm,who can move around

I think Darnold may still be salvageable. However, I don't think it's likely enough to part with a 1st rounder. The talent is there, and I think a reset could get him back on track.

I agree. I think Darnold can be a good QB, not sure if elite status is in his future. However, as biased as we have been with Ben, he was never entered into those conversations either. I think he was often left out of those conversations due to his different skill set. Anyway, one concern I would have about Darnold is it seems like we have a habit of drafting "projects" and it can be hit or miss. Is he another project that we never develop.

I also think he may be salvageable. He is also only 23.

I don't know if I want to give up a 1st rounder though...and I still want one more shot with Ben.

I don’t think I’d give a first or even a second for Darnold. He is going in to the last year of his rookie deal and whether you extend him or exercise the fifth year option after that he will get expensive very quickly.

He has not shown anything to suggest he is worth that kind of draft capital. He has also had a lot of injuries during his time in the league.

I'd give up a first only if it meant getting an extra 3rd or 4th round pick ourselves. Otherwise nah. I think giving up a first for him is a bit steep considering our holes at numerous positions, cap issues, and so on.

    No

    Maybe 2nd or 3rd.

if a QB isn’t good enough for the Jets, shouldn’t that tell you something

Also could be one of those cases where they weren't good enough for him.

His salary next year around 10 million, his 5th year around 25 million, tag a year later that much or a bit more. You are going to give the guy a minimum of 35 million, then he plays well enough but you cannot come to terms, so now at least 60 million all pretty much guaranteed. Just could not do that and spend a 1st as well.

*Looks at Ryan Tannehill during/after Gase*

Yeah I'd trade a 2nd for him. His trade value has been destroyed so a 1st is overpaying.

You give up a first rounder for a proven starter. 2 first rounders + for a star. They may get a 2nd for him, but more likely a 3rd

I agree with both of you. Worth a shot, but I'm not parting with a first rounder.

So we moved on from wanting Stafford, Watson, now it's Darnold .
