Trade Cam Heyward

Gonna be a huge cap purge this offseason anyway, might as well pull the bandaid off and relieve a 2021 contender of draft picks. Cam is still very productive and one of my all-time favorites, but this is a stone cold Belichick move and would lessen the long term pain of a rebuild.

Worst thing they can do is start extending guys like Pouncey and Heyward and Haden. The window on this group closes this offseason.

 

I don't think this is practical given the cap savings is minimal until after 2022.

 

Not about cap savings, it's about building for the future. Cap purge coming this offseason, 1st place schedule next year. 2020 is Ben's last shot at a Super Bowl.

Get as many picks as you can.

 

Lets see, so far we have "Trade TJ" now, "Trade Heyward", "Trade Haden", and the always popular, "Fire Tomlin", Who's next?

 

Let's go back in time and trade Greene, Bradshaw, Webster, Stallworth, Swann, Lambert, Ham, Blount, n Harris

I'm not on the Trade TJ bandwagon -- he's part of the future SB runs in 2,3 years.

Heyward is not. He'll be 32 in May.

Have you seen the list of free agents? Even without these guys, our cap hit is $203M already next year, with the projected salary cap of between $175M and $198M.

Do the math, the rebuild starts this offseason.

Heyward is signed through 2024. They won't extend him. And trade him? Who would take that contract? He is 31. Steeler for life.

Pouncey is signed through 2021 who also is 31. He will play it out they will let him ride off with Ben into the sunset.

Haden will stay next season and a possible added year to lessen the cap hit.

15,800,000 will come off the books when the door hits Dupree.

Alejandro Villanueva will be gone saving 8,390,000

 

Trade Fichtner, and Tomlin to KC for Mahomes

 

Those savings are already calculated. We have 35 players costing $202M against the cap in 2021. The most optimistic projection I've heard for the cap is $198M. The floor is $175M. This is going to be a painful offseason.

Last losing season we had was in 2003, 1 losing season in 20 years. 4 in 30 years, it’s nuts.

 

Are the playoffs over already? Did I miss them.

I don't think Cam will have to worry about being a Steeler until
he decides when he will be leaving.

 

When is the last time we had cap trouble like this with a 39-year old QB at the end?
