By all accounts he is responsible for contract negotiations and has a big part in personnel decisions, but you are right, we are not privy to what goes on inside the building, there are others involved too. I’m not sure it’s as easy as saying he can be replace by anybody that can use a calculator all the same.

I think you better be able to judge talent, I think this is why Omar
had been looked over for GM positions.

If we lose this guy we will be the new laughing stock of the nfl. Especially, this coming off season. It's crucial that he create his magic in signing key players and keeping us competitive

NE can't draft at all. Why would they want this guy?

He started out as a scout. He’s only had a handful of interviews over the last 3 years maybe.

I think it’s because he hasn’t held a GM position yet. Can’t get experience unless someone gives you a shot.

Still hoping he sticks around long enough to take over for Colbert.

IDK, He was interviewed 3 or 4 times previously, last time being 13/14 (?), he is only in his early 40's. To get interviewed at that level, at that age is pretty impressive.

I thought the salary cap guru was Samir Suleiman he went to the Panthers with Tepper.

That might be why they got this guy. NE is always trading picks.

That may be why he’s sticking around... Similar to Butler waiting for LeBeau to ‘retire’.

I’m torn with Khan. He may be a cap genius, but we are in cap hell year after year with no SB appearance in ten years.

I don't think any of that is attributed to him though. I think he is given a task to make it work and he finds ways to accomplish it. Kinda like the financing guy at car dealerships.

Yeah I can't remember if it was he declined the offer to interview or the steelers denied the request.

Plus they haven’t been in cap hell the last few seasons either.

The reason they are up against the cap a lot is because they keep their own players. I’d rather keep our own FA’s (the ones who are worth it) than sign a big name FA elsewhere that usually doesnt even pan out.

We go through this every few years, this year being one where we seem to have a longer list of potential FA's, aging players with bloated contracts, yada yada. I think the difference this year (or next) is the realization of the end of an era, not only Ben, but Pouncey, DD, AV, and I believe Colbert when Ben hangs it up (though KC just signed another 1 year extension).

Looks like Omar is safe...... for now.

Look for his name to pop up quite a bit in the Offseason.
