Do you remember when he used to jaw at midfield every pregame with his LBs?

This is before the internet really took off.

I never knew this but it was an act..when you saw Chad Johnson and Joey jawing and slapping each other it was all an entertainment type thing. Just like Dennis Rodman, Howard Stern, etc...they built upon a character that did make them money but behind closed doors they were different. Sorta like the WWE type stuff.

My point is there was this RB out of Boston College Green for the Browns who still took exception to it and Joey punched him out and that was the beginning of James Harrison.

I respect Blast Furnaces opinion and I dont want to keep dragging this out and am mot trying to come across as a Tomlin lover because no coach is perfect but Cowher had characters too.

Tomlin is coming across as a whimpy coach but when Coakley dogged it on a Josh Cribbs runback he was on the street that Monday.

When the RB DeAngelo Williams called out Peyton Manning ..Tomlin basically told DW to stop on twitter where I honestly felt DW had a legit gripe.

There are going to be Steeler fans who would rather see the Steelers go 0-16 then win a super bowl under Tomlin. That is sad but I have seen posters say this on other boards.

We can argue about Tomlins X and O decisions and his challenges and time management which much comes from other coaches that advise him...but the guy is not dumb.

He did not get into William and Mary because he had some Political Clout.

Just gets so old to hear that he is a wus and is dumb and of course we can respectfully agree to disagree because it will be boring on a board if there were no diff to debate.

Lets be honest ..most of our resumes are not going to get us a any kind of football position in the Steeler Org.

Where is this stuff about Joey Porter coming from? Surely you have comments from Porter himself saying it was all an act.

I'm really not sure what this thread is even about

I like Tomlin but tired of the Popcorn show. Trade him to the Lions for Stafford.

    Replacements?
    1. Give Cowher 100 million to rebuild.

    2. Titans OC

    3. Jim Harbaugh

    4. Any Manning

    5. That dude who left for Denver

Jim Harbaugh :puking2:LoL. Sorry! Just funny 2 me. Would be the the shortest time Coaching in Pittsburgh in the last 50 years.
Look at his track record. He either leaves or they get sick of him & force him out.

Harbaugh was one gritty little s.o.b. back in the day. He knows offense, what this league has morphed into.

My point is that Cowher had big personality guys too that were over the top and he let Joey be Joey and that he ran a much tighter ship than Tomlin may not be 100 true.

Lots of people complain that Tomlin has a "deer in the headlights" look during games. You want to trade that for "I gotta take a dump" looks?
He kinda went nuts in SF

How so. My point is that having big personalities is nothing new and Cowher allowed it.

Joey got kicked out of the game. What if that was today with Tomlin. Would he get a pass?

Thanks for taking the time Roonatic. Yeah. I wish Cowher would come back to coaching but losing his wife seemed to have changed him.

He seemed so burnt out the last year.

Im also for stability vs the coaching carousel.

i gotta check out the titans OC and they guy from Denver. I honestly dont know anything about them.

I do like the coach of the Rams and even Pete Carroll and any Harbaugh.

I've barked about Tomlin as much as anyone but I don't want him fired.

The problem is that he is a great man, he has integrity, he knows football, he handles the media well, he just doesn't believe in discipline and the bottom line.

Here is the issue in a nut shell:
    1. He will never be fired so talking about firing him is a waste of time.
    2. He is more concerned with being everybody's friend and being a cheerleader than he is being a disciplinarian and winning.
    3. It is abundantly clear that those above him are NOT going to make him change his ways.
    4. So, we are stuck with him until "he" decides to retire.
    5. THIS SUCKS!

If you fire Tomlin now, we lose a season or two getting up to speed with a new staff, and that's assuming you hire a guy who is a better head coach, and that is hard to do. The better alternative would be for Art II and Colbert to have a come to Jesus meeting with Tomlin and inform him that the lack of overall team discipline will no longer be tolerated.

But that is not going to happen, so here we are.

And one has to wonder if he left because he didn't care for the lax environment?

I think they do! I think he is a product of their environment.

I don't know what influence Colbert has on the team because he is never in the limelight but I have seen plenty of evidence that Art II is overly conscious of political correctness and fixing a 100 year old racial problem by making the pendulum swing the other way.

I have to bring up the Chargers again because they're the only team that gets widespread coverage here.
There's a trivia question in this mornings sports section: The Chargers have had 16 head coaches, how many have a winning record?
The answer is: 6. And a couple of them only because they were with the team for a short time.
Point is, we as Steeler fans have it pretty good!
