Apparently the NFL Network and Nate Burleson are floating an unsubstantiated claim that Ben is responsible for the Steelers not drafting a QB this year. I didn't realize Ben is the GM.

I think it's more like the NFL Network and all the draft "geniuses" are pissed that the Steelers didn't listen to them.

Obviously all these talking heads had a long conversation with Colbert and Tomlin. How else would they know this? I really wish the Steeler front office would stop telling the media their strategy?

Always trust the media. They love us and only want what's best for us.

It's true. I also find that many media sources are untrustworthy, until they say something I agree with, and then they aren't.

Another thing. Mason was colberts pick and I still say Colbert and mt will ride Ben until it's over, retire and let the next GM and coach pick their guy.

Steelers were never going QB, on these boards there was almost nobody willing them to take a QB because it made no sense given their lack of draft capital and needs elsewhere.

@mac daddyo@mac daddyo i couldn’t agree more when Ben goes I think there will be a real sea change across the organisation at both front office level and playing staff. Colbert, Tomlin, Ben, Pouncey, AV, Heyward, Haden, Decastro and a few of the other stalwarts will probably all leave within a year of each other, paving the way for big extensions for Minkah, Bush, TJ and whoever else emerges as a star in the meantime. Looking at that list they really need to start investing in the trenches in upcoming drafts.

they have quietly been adding to the offensive trenches. Chuks, Dotson, Gray, Feiler isn't that old, keenoy, montano, coyle, banner. It will be interesting to see how many of these guys are kept around this year.

I can see them listening to Ben's input about the Chase Clayton pick over Dobbins but really nothing more than that.

It's not like, with the 49TH pick in the 2020 draft Ben Roethlisberger selects.......

I almost feel bad for all the sports talking heads. They really have to drum up stuff to fill the air time in these weird days that we have to stride through.

There were no QBs who could hit the ground running and start in year 2 anyway where the Steelers were picking. No QB better than Rudolph or Lynch, so why even bother? QB would have been a wasted pick.

I still am finding it intriguing as to why media analysts are ignoring the major elephant in the room regarding Mason Rudolph's Sophomore Campaign. Having the most tumultuous season in which his head was based in twice and being labeled a racist is only tipping the iceberg here. Add in his Offensive Line which did him little to no favors and it is surprising that Mason performed as well as he did in 2019.

As stated before, perception is not meeting reality. Mason needs another shot. That said, he needs to develop. Shoving him out the door after one season is the highest form of being short sighted.

I disagree. I've watched Hurts play several times. Not impressed.

There's something to this. I'm sure of it. Ben got his panties in a bunch when Mason was drafted. He's a diva. He is above the players. He and Colbert have pretty much said so. I don't think Ben was directly involved in the decision-making process. But to say he isn't part of the process is wrong. He is.

Think about it this way, if he wasn't responding well to rehab and his return was unlikely, would we have drafted a qb? The odds go way up. So again, to think he's not responsible for them not drafting a qb is silly.

I would have taken Fromm in the 5th if we had that pick.

I liked Eason and Hurts but they went sooner and I like the pics we took in those rounds.

I doubt Ben had anything to do with it. Didn’t stop them from drafting Mason when Ben had more years left, why would they care what Ben says with maybe 2 years left in him.

Weird and odd idea but Mitchell Trubrisky just got his fifth year option declined. Would you take a chance on him?! Keep in mind that Kevin Colbert was present at UNC's Pro Day back in 2017.

I don’t think much of Mitch. I’d rather see if Rudolph has grown any from year one to year two.

Of course GM's and Coaches will often give misdirection. Colbert was very clear from the onset of the new year that he was comfortable with the 5 QB's they had on the roster. All of the talk that (name person) would sign here, or be drafted was simply media needing stories in a very dull time. Even today I saw some bit of who will be Ben's successor, did not even click on it, just bored with this non-sense.

I get the sentiment. I mean they drafted Rudolph and Ben started bitching. Reason #200 why I don't get the Rudolph pick. We had a developing QB in the wings. I honestly believe that's why James Washington hasn't been good. Ben didn't put the work in with him or want him to succeed because he's so close to Rudolph. Think about it if James Washington emerges as an elite WR and that carries over with Rudolph who he already has chemistry with. That makes Ben expendable.

Yinz laugh when I say Rudolph is one of the worst things that happened to this organization. But I can list a **** ton of things he ruined.

 Colbert is the GM he has final say, although they work together on personnel.

I wouldn't pay attention to the national media when it comes to the Steelers, remember how they were all on AB side when he left, look how that turned out :roflmao:.

    Put things in perspective:
    1. You are a talking head on a sports TV show.
    2. Your boss tells you that you MUST create a draft related story for every team and particularly the highly respected organizations.
    3. Facts don't matter, you just have to pull attention to your show.
    4. So, you spend two minutes thinking about the Pittsburgh Steelers......what is the most attention grabbing story you can think up?
Big Ben forbid the Steelers to draft a QB!
