Sorry, I like the guy. I understand the side of this argument that says he took up a roster spot of someone else who was faster (because that's where the upside ends). But I won't ever apologize for feeling comfortable with a guy who was sure-handed and dependable. Splash plays? Nope, that wasn't him. But that was never SUPPOSED to be him.

He did what he was asked to do and what was expected of him. And for some reason he gets crapped on for it. Something isn't right there.

A lot of fans don't like him because he averages about 4 yards per reception, he's only good for making fair catches on punts.

I’m just trolling the people who are trolling the Switzer fans :hehehe:

Poor Switz is going to start feeling like Charlie Brown with as much as he is being picked on. Why’s everybody always picking on me.

I wonder why Switzer is so polarizing? It's not like he draws attention to himself or kick cats or anything?

I'd like him better if he DID kick cats!;) I had hopes of him being a Wes Welker. With the blocking on the punts last season, he had no choice but to fair catch. At least he didn't drop them!

The problem I have with Switzer was the play calling more than the player. Quit running two yard bubble screens to your wide receivers, whether it's Switzer, JuJu, or any other receiver. Check the analytics. If a bubble screen works one out of four times, is the play even worth being in the playbook?

He also makes a ton of excuses and has thin skin. There are a few examples of him letting what the fans say get to him. He takes to Twitter to defend himself. Block it out and let your play do the talking. He been unable to do either. He’s great at kissing Ben’s ass though. I think that’s the most dependable and consistent part of his game:hehehe:......even more than fair catches.

Yeah but guys like AB and JuJu can break tackles on a bubble screen, Swizer not so much, he goes down on first contact.

Yep playcalling and play design are the biggest culprits. They talk about the Brady/Edelman connection but if you watch the play design is to clear out the route for Edelman. Its not a bubble screen or quick slant they are more like crossing routes or drag routes. If they did this with Switzer between 5 and 10 yards he would have greater success than catching it at or near the LOS and trying to get through the defense.

There’s a reason they don’t design plays for Switzer and it’s because he’s not as talented as Edelman. If he was they would center the offense around him, like Edelman. He made the team as a PR/KR and he hasn’t been good at either. He’s very limited as a slot receiver and is nothing more than a check down option and that’s how he’s used. I’m sorry but any comparison between the two should start and end with them both being white:smiley1:. They should be looking to upgrade the slot WR position and I believe they are and will. DJ is a far superior PR which takes away what little value Switzer had. If Switzer ends up being our best option in the slot, there’s something wrong with how we addressed the position.

Switzer's best benefit on the team other than being sure handed, is that Ben knows exactly where he is on the field and can check down to him for a few yards when needed.
Even at that I think he struggles to make the roster this year.

He was a useful player in 2018. In 2019, he was a guy who should have been off the roster even before he got hurt.

4 yards per reception still moves the chains. And there are far worse things that can happen on punts than making fair catches. I get it, people want splash plays. Splash plays can turn games around. Switzer doesn't give us that. I would contend, however, that most of his lack of production is playcalling. And I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the onus is on the offense to move the ball regardless of starting field position. A fair catch at the 15 or a 20 yard return to the 35 won't transition to points unless the offense does its job. Ensuring the offense gets the ball to do its job far outweighs the benefit of an extra 20 yards.

Field position affects play calling. So you can say it could improve the chances of scoring. Even just a FG. Also being able to flip the field is another big advantage especially when your teams strength is defense. Yes ball security is very important. Did DJ turn the ball over.? At the same time wasn’t he providing much, much more as the PR guy? His lack of production has way more to do with his lack of ability than it does play calling. Ball security is his one and only strength. We need a upgrade in the slot. Switzer isn’t that guy and DJ is the better PR guy and it isn’t even close....jmo

Diontae Johnson transitioned a punt return to points just fine against the Cardinals. :)

Field position matters. Better field position opens up more options in the playbook. That was especially true last season, when the Steelers had to worry about protecting inexperienced quarterbacks. Switzer's ineptitude once he had the ball in his hands cost his team field position last year.

Four yards per reception is pathetic, especially for a wide receiver. and Switzer didn't even reach that mark in 2019. He averaged 3.4 yards per catch. He was a wasted roster spot every game he was active last season. It isn't just about splash plays. It is about production and he didn't produce. He did in 2018, but he looked like he was running in mud in 2019.
