I'll point a finger at just how much Tomlin can discipline a player with playing time. Ben is a great argument with his off days during the week. AB was disciplined in a way that wouldn't hurt the bottom line. Tomlin played the cards he was dealt, only unreasonable hatred of Popcorn lays the blame on him. :duel:

The Steelers got 9 productive years from AB, he lasted 1 game with Belichick and New England, and only a few months with the Raiders and Gruden .

Tomlin gave AB leeway, and he was very productive with the team, when AB got to be too much they got rid of him. AB couldn't make it through a whole season with the GOAT Belichick .

They got rid of him? You might want to check your history. He forced his way out. There was no "getting rid of him." Don't fool yourself into thinking that Tomlin, or even the Steeler brass, were on top of the situation.

I know he forced his way out, they still got rid of his crazy ass for low ball picks. The Steelers got Hall Of Fame caliber play out of him.

I'm not sure what your angle is here. We were talking about Tomlin not reigning in AB and letting him be a distraction/cancer. His numbers were positioning him to make a run at the Hall, granted. But that died with Tomlin enabling his bad behavior. And how did his HoF caliber play work out for us? How many playoff games did we win with him and his eliteness? I don't care about his numbers when they didn't help us when it counted.

Name a coach who was going to handle AB, the dude is freaking nuts, we got 9 years out of him.

And Tomlin is a good coach because of his winning %. I'm over all these crazy numbers you all are spouting off to justify silly opinions. And ANY coach could have handled him by holding him to the same standard as the rest of the team and by disciplining him sternly and fairly for his actions. It's not WHO could have, that's irrelevant.

Coaches always give star players preferential treatment, that's just the way it is. We should fire Tomlin because AB went off the rails .

Even Singletary told the press that one of his players was “unmanageable” and he was a big disciplinarian. Too much so

So are you saying that Singletary just laid down and let the dude do whatever he wanted?

No, as I recall he disciplined the guy. Some said excessively. Don’t remove who the player was, TE? Mike was gone not too long after.....

Coughlin used to get a lot of grief for being too strict with the Giants and the players seemed to rebel a little against it. You can definitely go overboard. But that's not what this is about. Tomlin should have, and could have, put his foot down and taken control of AB and the situation(s). He didn't. He let AB run amok. He also enabled Ben and we now have a qb who feels he is above the team. That just isn't right. It isn't sustainable. It's bad coaching.

I’m not sure how much is coaching and how much is the diva players. We’ve all seen players not try if they’re not featured on the play (Moss). Strict coaches are few and far between anymore. I don’t know if we’ll ever see another Coughlin or Parcells. Even Chuckie is a relative pussy cat anymore. Seems like good players are more interested in their fantasy stats than actually winning something. Pats are an exception.

Vernon Davis a TE. Made him leave a game at halftime once i think. Told him to hit the showers, he was too soft & he wasn't gonna play anymore.

I don't think Ben answers to Popcorn. Hasn't for awhile imo. AB became livid when he tried it & (sit down this is may shock you) was disciplined for the Bengals game.

This. If anything, Tomlin’s style of coaching likely got more productivity out of AB than just about any other coach would have gotten.
