If that report is right, Moncrief needs to go.

If they can't get that 3rd-round pick back, the trade with the Seahawks looks even worse.

Well, if the equation has only that variables...

    Do you prefer:

    a) Keep Moncrief
    b) have a 3rd rounder in 2020

Tip: Moncrief has been benched, DJ, JW, JH are already ahead of him.
Tip 2: We do not have many early picks in next year's draft.

Hell, I wanted Moncrief cut anyway. If that's what the Steelers need to do for a third-round pick, it's the easiest decision ever, even with the dead money cap hit.

Don't even fool around waiting until week 10, cut him now. If there is an injury with a WR bring up Tevin Jones from the practice squad.

This is a no brainer if it's between Moncrief and a 3rd. I didn't even know we could be screwed out of our pick by the Eagles. That's complete horsesh^7t!

The comp pick formula is complicated, and depends in part upon how many players you sign vs. lose, and whether those players remain on rosters. There’s a lot more to it than that, and the exact formula is secret, but it’s not as simple as “if you lose a player who makes $X million, you get a Y round pick.”

Unfortunately this story makes sense because losing Fort was a key to our overall balance of losses vs. gains.

I don’t know if cutting Barron instead would help this situation, but I suspect it would help more than cutting Moncrief because Barron makes more money. The dead cap hit in 2020 for cutting Barron would be 2.875 million vs. 1.75 million for Moncrief. If that we’re not an issue, I’d rather cut Barron and sign Fort than cut Moncrief. Moncrief was playing with a dislocated finger. Barron just flat out stinks and has been showing questionable effort.

Colbert has done ok on the no-brainers this season. Hopefully the trend continues here.

Is the CFL dude still around? Eli Rogers? Wasn’t there another decent receiver in camp as well? Could all be cheap replacements...

That's a good point, i.e. Barron vs Moncrief. The good thing is they don't have to make a decision for another 6 weeks or so which gives them enough time to at least figure who is the least valuable. The only problem there is if you want to get Fort back. He may not be available for long.

I hated the Moncrief signing from the very beginning. If this report is accurate, I hope the Steelers release him sooner rather than later. I wouldnt let this drag out to week 9.

Stuff like this is why I never get excited about comp picks. It seems like every year everybody over projects our comp picks and our comp selections never end up being as high as we hoped.

I was hell bent on releasing him before they benched him. But I bet if you play him right now, he plays well.

    More like:

    a) Keep Moncrief and have a 4th rounder in 2020
    b) have a 3rd rounder in 2020

I'm guessing many will choose (b) anyways, but you should not give the wrong variables.

I would like to see what Moncrief can do when his finger is healed , before cutting him loose.

He is not what we have seen so far.

If this is part of the formula then if we cut both Barron and Montcrief do we get an additional comp pick for Jessie James?

His performance is a mystery, to be sure. And part of me hopes it clears up, if only for the veteran presence in the WR corps.

I suppose I’m burned by how long we kept up with Coates when his fingers were mangled, and a few others who had lingering injuries that affected their play.

What I don’t understand, though, is that Moncrief must be showing he can play in practice, surely? They wouldn’t have stuck him out there if he wasn’t catching well...?
