Has anyone seen or heard this before? Bill Parcells' criteria for drafting a QB

    https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland...-Parcells-QB-Rules-Applied-in-2018-113440836/

Our guy Mason Rudolf checks the list better than all other 2018 QB before him and tied with Mayfield.

    Be a three-year starter - CHECK
Be a senior in college - CHECK
    Graduate from college - CHECK
    Start 30 games - CHECK
    Win 23 games - CHECK
    Post a 2:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio - CHECK
Complete at least 60-percent of passes thrown - CHECK

(Another rule of his for 1st round draft picks is that you should either draft a QB, someone who protects a QB or one that gets after the QB. You may not agree, but it's an interesting philosophy. Rules out WR, RB, and DB's it seems.)

I heard that on one of the Steelers podcasts this week, interesting theory for sure.

I like the theory that you should only draft linemen or a QB in the first round. Especially true if you are drafting high.

That is one of the "Laws of Drafting" just about any team, scout and fans who love the draft in general (like yours truly) follows, incorperates or uses. Who is to say he is wrong?! Bill Parcells is one of the greatest coaches ever for a reason.

All that said, his definition has changed over the years somewhat. Much of what he says still rings true. The positions though have not and are changing. Even some of his rules on Quarterbacking are not always concrete, such as Deshan Watson or even Patrick Mahomes as neither of those players were seinors.

For example, regarding who is protecting the QB, the Steelers have historically valued a Center over a Left Tackle. Better yet and, in recent years, some teams are looking for Interior Defensive Lineman as those who get after the QB before they attempt to go for that pass rusher off the edge. It is not that edge rushers no longer have value but the importance of having that interior disruptive force is rising.

In short?! Bill Parcells words and motto still ring true today. Heck, some GMs, like John Dorsey, Dave Gettleman and Brett Veach swear by it. The fact of the matter though is that his M.O. upon drafting is changing due to the modern style of the NFL, personnel matchups.

Probably where I heard it, but I actually think it might have been on sports radio here in NYC.

Love Alex on the the terrible podcast and Dave's opinions, I just wish I never had to hear his voice stumble over every thought ever again.

Behind the steelers curtain is another good podcast. Jeff and Lance's shows only, the other hosts are hard to deal with.

Anyone have any other good podcasts to recommend?

Behind the steel curtain is probably my favourite. I could listen to lance all day.

The Locked On Steelers podcast isn’t bad either, they put out 4-5 a week much shorter than some of the others so it’s perfect for my drive to work which is about 30 minutes. I like the crossovers they do with the other teams podcasts before games.

But what great qb has Parcels really coached?

He coached some good qb’s, but no great ones.

Never heard and really don't care. He owes his career to Lawerence Taylor.
