Mike Tomlin- Headcoach... signed an extension in 2017 that keeps him thru 2020. Look for him to keep his job. I believe the Rooneys will have him coach out his contract and decision time will be after the 2020 season. They will most likely "suggest" some changes on his staff.

John Mitchell- Asst Head Coach... Administrative Duties, job is secure.

Randy Fichtner... OC/QB ... Offense remained potent despite Ben leading the NFL in ints and no Bell.. Job is secure.

James Daniel.. TE.. Job is secure... nothing special either way, good or bad

Darryl Drake..Wr... Job is Secure. Brown & JuJu are top performers. Some may question him due to Washington's slow development. I disagree. Washington will be a future star BUT he had a limited rte tree in college and ran from just one side of the offense. Look for year two to be one he becomes a legitimate NFL WR.

Mike Munchak..OL... Safe!!! Nuff said!!! We may lose him to another team as HC
Shaun Sarrett..Asst OL.... Job is secure

James Saxon... RB... His work with both Connor and Samuel's proves his value... job is secure

Keith Butler... DC... He was a good LB coach but the DC job is just too big for him. Time to go...

Tom Bradley...DB....Sean Davis is better @ FS but still underperformed. Artie Burns is his nightmare. Bottom Line the secondary is the defenses Achilles heel.... Butler did him no favors with scheme but he still failed. Time to go.

Karl Dunbar..DL.... job secure because he didn't mess up a good thing Mitchell built.

Jerry Olsavsky... ILB....Job is secure.. losing Shazier and replacing him with Bostic wasn't helpful. His work and development with William's, Shazier, Tyler M., and Fort shows he can coach. He just needs more talent there.

Joey Porter... OLB.... Job is secure.... Dupree slow development might suggest otherwise BUT he was over drafted in the first place. His has Watt playing well, and look at chickillo..... a legitimate OLB backup.

Danny Smith.... ST.... job is probably secure..... Our ST isn't horrible but isn't Great either. I'd like to see a change here.

Garrett Giemont... Strength & Conditioning.... Job is secure

    Coaching Assts---

Denzel Martin... was an scouting asst until promoted this year to Coaching Asst. Played LB in college and works on our defense.

Blaine Stewart....Offense asst. Is the Son of former WV HC Bill Stewart who gave Tomlin his first coaching job @VMI in 95'.... He played at James Madison (wr).... Tomlin & Colbert attended his last High School game. Good story.

Matt Symmes.... Offense/QB.... Graduated from Duke/ Grad asst under David Cutcliffe who coached both Mannings and has a current QB @ Duke, Daniel Jones, who has a chance to be a 1st rd pick. Matt has been mentioned as working under Fitchner with Mason R. A coach on the rise probably a year away from full time position coach.

Watt's development had nothing to do with porter.... in fact, porter was quoted weeks ago complaining about watt, saying that he had no pass rush moves... that quote and watt's development in spite of porter speaks for itself...
    He needs to go

He hasn't sucked at his job. He hasn't done a great job either. It's hard to truly know how well a position coach does when his DC consistently screws things up personnel and schematically wise. Watt, Chickillo and Dupree has each gotten better each season.

Still, I'd like to see a change at OLB Coach but I don't believe it will happen.

Disagree. STs lost games but sure didn’t win any. Think punt return can LAC.

Butler, Oslavsky and Porter need their resignation papers effective immediately. They all have had their chances. They need to go.

For that matter, Art Rooney II needs to decide if Tomlin should be picking the next Defensive Coordinator; linebacking coaches doubly so.

To be clear... I think he needs replacing. I feel his ST has underperformed considering the players he has to work with BUT I don't think he's done a bad enough job for Tomlin to replace him.

I think Butler was on his final contract year. Might be wrong. If so I doubt he is resigned. Butler spent 15 yrs here as a coach, being patient and loyal waiting for LeBeau to leave. Separating from Butler is needed but the org./Tomlin has to handle it correctly.

I disagree on Jerry. He hasn't had much to work with yet he's had them playing better than their skill set sans Butler's piss poor schemes and play calling.

I'd like to see Porter replaced but again Watt is great and is better every year. Dupree wasn't a 1st rd talent so his struggles didn't surprise me and he has gotten better every yr. Chickillo, like it or not has outperformed his draft status and again, improves every year , which is an indication of good coaching..... A players development.

You should add Smith to that list.

To say a rookie then 2nd yr OLB development had Nothing to do with his position coach disqualified your entire statement. I guess his DC developed him, coached him up

If the team wants to handle it "correctly", Keith Butler staying for that matter, then at the absolute worst.. here is what needs to happen:

    • Demote Keith Butler back to Outside Linebackers Coach.
    • Fire Joey Porter.
    • Hire a new Defensive Coordinator.

Again, at the absolute worst. However, given the fact that Kevin Greene still has an interest to come back to become the next Outside Linebackers coach, it would be best to make a run for him and cut both Porter and Butler the same. They both stink. Regarding Jerry? Sans Ryan Shazier, he had someone to work with; Matthew Thomas. Why he was not on the roster still puzzles me. Was it really all him or was it the lack of teaching?

Now that Greene is recently unemployed I'd be on board with replacing Porter with him.

I'd even be on board with Butler as an LB coach but don't look for it.

Mathew went undrafted for a reason , he cleared waivers after being released for a reason. He has potential but it's unrealized and Blaming his position coach for that this early in his career is wrong.

Many would disagree with your assessment of Dupree coming out in the draft. He was definitely considered a 1st round pick.

    https://www.steelers.com/video/2015-combine-workout-bud-dupree-15101341

Mike Mayock had him rated the 2nd top edge rusher with profile of a 3-4 OLB.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/bud-dupree?id=2552289

The Steelers needed a replacement for Jason Worilds who decided to abruptly pursue new life goals of being one of the 144 thousand.

I blame the coaching for his lack of development. His lack of using his hands is still an issue. Set up some self defense classes for him or something.

The Steelers ended up getting a very average to good OLB with marginal pass rushing ability, which is why he was initially drafted and the reason everyone is calling him out as a bust.

I don't think a soul in Pittsburgh would bat an eye at Kevin Greene coming to the Burgh to teach the LBs.

I'm cool with him teaching them some wrestling moves also ;)

What I would not give to dump Porter for Greene. There is a reason why Kevin Greene is in Canton. Sign him up here!!

Everybody see all these NFL coaching changes/firings today? HCs, OCs and DCs getting wacked all over the league and not one mention of a Steelers coach hitting the street. What are we afraid of....having another 9-6-1 season and no playoffs? We just love the standard being the standard in Bizarro World. Amazing.

Dupree is maybe the best example of our problems. He has the physical tools but hasn't progressed. Is it his fault? Just a kid who can't figure it and is destined to be a poor draft choice? Or is it a coaching fault? Why does he go too far up field on EVERY rush? Can he improve under different instruction?
