T.J. Watt, Bud Dupree aren’t having the career years you think they’re having
    https://www.profootballfocus.com/ne...ving-the-career-years-you-think-theyre-having

"Combining for 14.5 sacks (per ESPN) in 10 games, Pittsburgh Steelers edge defenders T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree are both on pace to eclipse previous career-high sack totals in 2018. The two first-rounders are finally starting to live up to their potential." "Wrong."

"The Pittsburgh duo’s inflated sack totals aren’t products of vastly improved pass-rush ability from either of the two young edge defenders, but rather improved defensive scheme and usage."

"Through Week 11, Watt and Dupree have earned career-high pass-rush grades at 68.4 and 64.1, respectively, but their career-best marks still rank 28th and 42nd compared to the 62 NFL edge defenders with 200-plus pass-rush snaps this season. Following suit, Watt and Dupree rank just 26th and 40th in win rate, respectively."

You know what you can do with those PFF win rates, by the end of the season they will most likely have over 20 combined sacks.

TJ Watt has been legit dominant at times and looked lost at others. Thankfully, he’s been solid for the most part. Bud Dupree is just awful.

Watt is the best defensive pick we've made other than shazier in recent years. Of course hes not no where near his brother or any of the top defensive players in the league but he's a beast. Def will be a pro bowl player but Dupree still is bad. He has been decent as of late but I would not bring him back next yr.

So they are having career years with sack totals, but their score on PFFs equation for pass rush is low - is that the gist?

Steelers Depot showed a competing stat last season when they factored coverage snaps into sacks, where Dupree and Watt were among the best.

It’s down to which way you cut the numbers I guess. But they’re still having career year sack-wise.

I read the full article earlier too. Basically they are getting most of their sacks, not from beating the tackles (TE, etc) one-on-one, but by running in untouched on a stunt or breakdown by the O in their pass pro. At least they are finishing the play...
Dupree's pass rushing repertoire has seem to plateaued but I think Watt can still add to his arsenal. PFF is making a comparison to Vic Beasley who had a terrific sophomore season but has been corralled this year. He has 4 sacks or something. It's really not a good comparison, too many variables.

I didn't read the article but I've seen Watt winning some 1 on 1 matchups. Not only that but he is causing TOs with his pressures. He still has room to grow but I'm definitely inspired but what I've seen in a short time and with limited college experience at the position. As far as Dupree I think he has benefited greatly from the switch. He seems to get a better read of the snap so he can use his speed to win on the edge. I don't think he will ever be a good 1 on 1 OLB but he's been playing better than what we've seen up to this point. Now whether it translates to another contract remains to be seen. At 9.5 I say no way. At a reduced rate....maybe. Like I said in my other post I wished we had some actual NFL tape from our youngins....

"Who" has a few different definitions.
1-Hey dumbass this is not Steelers related.
2-You're stupid for posting this nonsense.
    3-Who gives a crap.
4-And sometimes it just may mean "Who?" (very rare though)

I was feeling pretty good about Watt, but it PFF says it, it must be true. Now I’m sad. Season over

I don't think PFF has a usable metric for how effectively players fit into a defensive scheme. They usually assume that an average player can be substituted and get similar results.

Dupree and Watt appear to be playing well and creating pressure within the scheme of the defense. The overall defense has improved. What's the problem?

And people who continue to be down on Dupree refuse to see the strives he's made.

I did not read the article and don't really need to. I know Dupree stinks however he is having his best year of his career this season, FWIW. As for TJ I don't care about stats I care about what I see when he plays. How many times has he made a play when he may have not got the sack but was right there putting pressure on and cause the play to not happen? Or how many times he has hit the ball out causing a fumble leading to our ball or a punt? Some info don't show up on the stat line and some do but since TJ is in his 2nd year I find it hard for someone to say he isn't having a career year when his career is not even 2 years long............
