Steelers should have plenty of money to extend him in the offseason if they don't franchise Bell again.

Oh ok I was just curious. So he hasn't really been a factor against any other teams. I know his ability and what he can offer I just didn't know if he was actually being productive. So we were basically able to do much of the same in controlling his effectiveness. I'll take it.

Even if they do tag Bell, it’ll be well under this year’s $14.4mm. There will still be a few million left for Hilton.

So much for Edmunds being the starting Strong Safety. That being said, I did initally want Burnett to start out at Strong Safety so that Terrell can acquire some of the nuances within the dime 'backer position.

Still can be Terrell's spot to lose but given the current circumstances, assuming Burnett can do a better job than Edmunds, so be it. Have Edmunds play the dime backer role given his explosive capabilities. Let him learn and develop from there if need be.

I've read that a 3rd consecutive tag means the price escalates to the QB rate. (Unless Bell sits out this season.)
In which case it will close to $20M, at the cheapest.

Sounds to me that this thought process is two fold. It seems to me like they want to get Burnett in his most comfortable position with all the top QBs we have coming up. At the same time there are concerns with TEs coverage skills under the same circumstances.
I'm not too sure he will get much play at dime- backer. We already have Fort coming in for that. Still wondering if we're ever gonna get to see Thomas this season.
As far as TEs explosiveness I know it's there but he is often looking a little flat footed in his tackling. I'm pretty sure it's still growing pains but I'd like to see him playing faster and downhill....

I would like to see more turnovers. Dang ball lied on the ground for 5 minutes yesterday after Jackson fumbled the snap to Collins.

Going to need to start producing some turnovers. We got some for real offenses coming up these last 8 games.

Sorry, I was going by the reports that the Steelers would use the transition tag.

I was assuming the 3rd tag meant a transition tag at the QB rate, which would be $20.9M (QB franchise tag at 23.1).

(That is a guess. Sports writers may be misunderstanding the tag legalese.)

The Falcons are 4-4 and they just crushed the Redskins, the first-place team in the NFC East. More importantly, their offense ranks eighth in points per game and fifth in yards per game in the NFL, ahead of every remaining team on the Steelers' schedule except the Saints and Patriots. Just because the Steelers handled it so well does not mean that game was not a good test of the defense.

The Bengals are 5-3, a half-game behind the Steelers. They are contenders.

I understand your point. The second half of the schedule looks tougher than the first, especially in terms of the offenses the Steelers will face. That said, it is useful to be accurate in how we evaluate the defense. The Browns' offense is a mess, but the improvement shown over the last four weeks wasn't nothing.

We're due to get some turnovers that's for sure. We're in a bit of a dry spell. Hopefully that changes in prime time Thursday night!

During the times when we don't suck & we do something positive on defense, the refs throw a flag for something really petty. How is it possible to play defense in today's NFL?? You can't really hit nobody nowadays, extremely difficult for secondary to challenge recievers ...NFL is getting soft

This season seems particularly bad, for some reason. Its like cumulation of Goodell’s master plan.

But if they use the transisitoning tag, he's then free to negotiate and sign to another team and pitt would then have to match their offer.

They would not have to match. They would have the option to match. If they do not match, they get the comp pick. Tagging him again next year is a good idea. Either they get him at a fair contract or they get the pick. No loose either way.
