Great win. If not for the penalties, we would have been cruising through this game. Most impressive was the line. They continue to be the class act of this team. From them all other offensive actions are possible. I like Ben's initiative to get a first down but he is not Vick and we don't need him hurt. Also impressed with off the bench Dobbs bullet out 20+ yrds for the first. That was another 3rd down conversion of many that kept our offense on the field. One downer was Boswells extra point snafu. Thought that was behind us. Now bring on Carolina.

Actually, the pass by Dobbs was on second down.

Boswell's miss is definitely a big concern. I don't see how the Steelers can trust him with a game on the line.

I'm just curious why you switched? Do you still have DTV?

This is it in a nutshell. I'm not going to contest every penalty ever called on us, but I do want to see that penalty called consistently across the game.

As I watched it, the pass defending looked more like trying to deflect the ball and not much like blocking the receiver’s vision.

EDIT—I inadvertently posted the rule here and orphaned my reply below. I’ve swapped them.

Also, I meant the DPI in Burnett (Q3, 3:07), not the one on Edmunds (Q2, 7:12).

ARTICLE 2. PROHIBITED ACTS BY BOTH TEAMS WHILE THE BALL IS IN THE AIR
Acts that are pass interference include, but are not limited to:

    (a) Contact by a player who is not playing the ball that restricts the opponent’s opportunity to make the catch.
    (b) Playing through the back of an opponent in an attempt to make a play on the ball.
    (c) Grabbing an opponent’s arm(s) in such a manner that restricts his opportunity to catch a pass.
    (d) Extending an arm across the body of an opponent, thus restricting his ability to catch a pass, and regardless of whether the player committing such act is playing the ball.
    (e) Cutting off the path of an opponent by making contact with him, without playing the ball.
    (f) Hooking an opponent in an attempt to get to the ball in such a manner that it causes the opponent’s body to turn prior to the ball arriving.
    (g) Initiating contact with an opponent by shoving or pushing off, thus creating separation.
Note: If there is any question whether player contact is incidental, the ruling should be no interference.

ARTICLE 3. PERMISSIBLE ACTS BY BOTH TEAMS WHILE THE BALL IS IN THE AIR
Acts that are permissible by a player include, but are not limited to:
    1. Incidental contact by an opponent’s hands, arms, or body when both players are competing for the ball, or neither player is looking for the ball. If there is any question whether contact is incidental, the ruling shall be no interference.
    2. Inadvertent tangling of feet when both players are playing the ball or neither player is playing the ball.
    3. Contact that would normally be considered pass interference, but the pass is clearly uncatchable by the involved players, except as specified in 8-3-2 and 8-5-4 pertaining to blocking downfield by the offense.
    4. Laying a hand on an opponent that does not restrict him in an attempt to make a play on the ball.
    5. Contact by a player who has gained position on an opponent in an attempt to catch the ball.
    Notes
    1) When the ball is in the air, eligible offensive and defensive receivers have the same right to the path of the ball and are subject to the same restrictions.

Starting to wonder if this is because we now have a reputation as a penalty fraught team. Just as when Ben developed a reputation for extending plays thus giving license for the defense to do things that would have never flown against Brady et al.

Maybe it's because Tomlin called them out a couple weeks ago and rightfully so. Its the inconsistency that's frustrating and makes me don my tinfoil hat...

No. I had to get rid of DirecTV, so that meant switching to Game Pass. The tough part is avoiding hearing about the score until I can watch it in the evening.

I was listening to the pregame show on Steeler Nation Radio. They were saying before the game that this officiating crew has called the most penalties on visiting teams in the NFL. They were predicting before the game that it would be a factor. They were also saying that conversely, that same officiating crew had called the least amount of penalties on home teams this season.

I agree with this. I fully believe that the reason Watt was fined for his phantom low hit, was to send a message to Tomlin.

Again the issue is that they were calling everything on our DBs and nothing on the Ravens DBs. Several times they did just as much as our guys with no call. I can't stand that PI is the biggest penalty in the game and it is called completely arbitrarily. It makes watching the games very difficult to enjoy.

Yeah but why is that? When we win it always seems like the refs are keeping the Ravens in it but when they beat us, they usually dominate us and we get no calls like they did yesterday.

I actually thought one of those PI's was pretty week. You can have your back to the ball, but you can't touch the receiver, and I forget who it was ... but Edmunds or Burnett barely touched the guy, and never grabbed the receiver with their hands. I thought the coverage was good.

Also, were the Ravens head hunting in that game? A couple Steelers took some pretty big head shots in the game?

I believe that was the one on Edmunds in the endzone that put them at the 1. Perfect defense imo. Which by the way, I saw in the Patriots game... Patriots defender grabbed dude in the endzone and caused him not to be able to catch a TD. What did they call? Holding, 5 yard penalty instead of PI and putting them at the 1. I thought that was hilarious. Little things they do to rig it in their favor.

I don't think they were head hunting. The Weddle one on Juju was bang bang but Juju makes a big catch and gets killed and they call a phantom hold on us. Game was more frustrating than enjoyable.

All great info but I saw PI and I even watch with Steeler colored glasses on. I scream when the flag is thrown then I go back and watch it again and I see PI. Putting the rule book on here don't change my opinion.

I posted the rules so people could read it, not as some inscrutable rebuttal.

Fwiw, I said in the GameDay Thread that Edmunds chest-bumped Brown. Burnett, though he had a hand on the receiver, didn’t look to me like he was shoving him or face-guarding.

He wasn't. That was the worst of the pass interference calls against the Steelers, though you could argue for the OPI call against Brown.

Hell on the play Ben took a sack, they only showed one shot of the receivers downfield and Brown was getting his jersey pulled off from the neck!

    No other shots were shown!

Does anyone have film on these penalty's cause I don't know how to look them up. When I watched these I saw hand grabbing and contact to the body. I don't think these calls were that bad as compared to what we got called in the past. Also if the refs were so bad why didn't they call PI towards the end of the game on us cause that was bad and there was no call.

I use NFL GamePass to watch plays, and the NFL Gamebook play-by-play to find when the relevant plays happened.
