Could have gotten earl thomas and someone else instead of franchise tagging him.

Suspension. Bell remained in level 2 of the NFL program.

I think we could have traded for him but of course it's not certain but not tagging leveon would have freed up 14 million in space.

Dulac posted on twitter on Monday night the points per game numbers from when the offense centered on Bell and he accounted for 30 or more percent of the plays vs Ben being the focal point and slinging it. Lower pts per game average for Bell over 30 pts per game since shifting to Ben running things.

Dallas offered a second round pick for Earl Thomas, Seattle turned it down Pittsburgh wouldn't make that type of offer.

That was after the mack trade. They figured if mack garners two first rounders they could at least get 1 or a 2nd and a 3rd.

I think he's hurting his value. If and when he returns and actually plays this year, lets say he gets average stats. Whether that's from him not in football shape, Steelers liking their fit with Conner, or Bell only rotating in for the first two weeks to get up to speed. Whatever the case may be, here is what he's putting on his 2018 resume - 1) hard to negotiate with 2) another year older 3)and then good or bad his stats for the rest of 2018.

Now factor in the performances of the first and second year guys at RB. The Kamaras, Hunts, McCaffreys, etc in year two and if the rookie RBs this year perform well, then why pay an aging vet, as good as he is, when you may be able to get a RB in the early rounds and use that money on other positions?

He is saving his body from wear and tear this year, but I think overall he is damaging his reputation. Add in the rapping and FOs may question his focus on the game.

AB's already publicly came out and stated he did not want to be traded. His comment was made in angst. He has a history of being impulsive and lashing out. He's also under contract until 2021 with the 2nd highest salary per year for wide receivers. When signed, he was the top paid wide receiver.

I don't see him going anywhere.

Bell's taken a huge gamble betting on himself. Basically he needs to able to ball out as soon as he returns to show he's worthy of this dual top RB-2nd WR salary. He and his agent definitely have been selling it well with just about every sportscaster/commentator being supportive of Bell. We'll see if the GMs bite. I'm sure one will.

I think the philosophy you mentioned is the better one. Go with young backs.

I'd of given Bell his 17 million, but it would have come with incentives to be the top rusher in the league and put up at least the second wide receiver stats on the team, TDs enc. Like the Steelers offered, there'd be no guaranteed money past the third year.

People like to forget they did offer him 45 million in a "rolling guaranteed" structure. The 10 million that people scoff at was the signing bonus.

I still think he walked himself away from a good deal and situation. Think it's going to bite him in the end.

Hell, give him 100 a million contract, largely based on incentives. No missed games, no suspensions, 1500 yards rushing, 1000 yards receiving , 90 receptions, has to have 30 touches a game including playoff's.
I always thought Bell was one hell of a player and loved him but as far as I am concerned now, he brought drama to this team plus he is making the organization bad. Now I say get out and don't let the door hit you in the a**.

Maybe not right now but I see the writing on the wall with him. He came out and also said Tomlin knew he wouldn't show up that Monday yet he disciplined you for something he knew about? Doesn't make any sense.

Personally I don't care. He is an after thought as far as i'm concerned. I hope they can find a trade partner. And if They don't so be it. If he sits out the whole year, fine. The last thing I want to see is them franchise him again. Also I don't want to see him come back in week 10 and bowed down to. We have a solid running back in Connor. Also the drama circus. Enough already.

Former NFL VP and GM Jeff Diamond says that he's hurting his value. I'll go with his opinion.

    http://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/...rade-rumors-update/1p34lelttymuo10kurrcc8c20i

As for helping his value by saving wear and tear on his body, that would only be true if he suffered some sort of catastrophic injury at a point during the season that would prevent him from being able to start next season on time, and there is no way of guaranteeing that. Given that the only way to assure that he enters FA healthy as to maximize his contract, is to not play at all (not an option), his sitting out and missing game checks is really a dumb move. He still has to play, and there's still significant risk that he could injure himself during the final 6 games. How ironic would it be if he sat out until game 11, then shredded his acl in week 16? The money he doesn't get every week is money that is lost and he'll never recoup it regardless of how much is next contract is worth.

Hurting. Every other athlete when in a contract year tries to ball out as much as possible. They are all faced with getting hurt.

    Bell is doopid

Now, that makes sense to me. Spreading the love more to guys like Juju, Washington, McDonald, JJ, conner, AB seems like a much more productive way to run a high powered O than just relying on giving a single guy 30 touches a game. I wouldn't call the Steelers a one-trick pony with Bell, but it is painfully clear that he is the main focal point of your O. Seems like a much more well rounded attack without him. Of course, now we live or die on Ben and whether or not he is going to turn it over 5 times or throw 5 TDs (maybe even both). I'd rather rely on Ben than Bell.

    This defense tho...

While it's true that AB would be fine on another team, it is also true that Ben and him have a special connection by evidence by the most connections of a QB-WR duo ever in 5 years.

AB is with the Steelers as long as Ben is with the Steelers. My prediction. Also the guy is under contract through 2022. It's not like he's packing up and leaving anywhere on his own volition unless he retires. He also will be 34 years old in 2022.

Peak seasons for wide receivers range from 27-30 years old.

    http://apexfantasyleagues.com/2018/03/the-peak-age-for-a-nfl-wide-receiver/#

AB's heading on the down-slope sooner than later. Not many wide receivers play past 35. with notable exceptions like Jerry Rice.

There is a difference between making it known to your employer that you will be missing from a scheduled work day and being excused from being there. If I call into my job and say my kids are sick or I'm sick I won't be in to work that is the proper procedure. I have made an attempt to notify them of my circumstances. Now if I don't make up the time for that day or I am out of personal time I can be written up, given a verbal warning or fired. So yes even though he informed Coach Tomlin he wouldn't be in on Monday, that doesn't mean he was excused and it can and in this case did lead to a punishment for that action.

Yeah but with the cache ab has I sincerely doubt if he had to miss a day and told everyone before hand he wouldn't get in trouble. Stop comparing athletes to everyday jobs and people please.

You need to get over this belief that it isn't an everyday job and that they have rules. Doesn't matter if its Hockey, Football, baseball or what have you. IF you aren't excused you are going to face punishment. If you don't show up for a position meeting but say oh I called the strength and conditioning coach and told him I had to go to town to get some new shoes is your coach going to go well ok you at least told someone? or are you going to face some punishment?

So then what is telling them before hand? Isnt that being excused? I seriously doubt if AB said hey coach I have something personal td hat is an emergency that came up he wouldnt say hey that's cool see you Tuesday or whatever. I truly believe AB was mad after Sunday and needed a day to cool off. That's what happened and he told Tomlin probably after the fact and thats why it garnered that reaction.

Being excused is being excused. Having your agent tell the team you had a personal issue to attend to doesn't mean the Steelers excused it. So unexcused and why he was punished
